Looks like they popped the rear shackles to get more height in the rear.

I love this. This is one of those cars that no matter what angle I look at it, I love it.

Same here. Would be a perfect garage mate to the black Marauder that was on site a few days ago.

Right? Can you imagine having both of them in your garage?

LOVE the interior on the '63 500XL. Those bucket seats were comfortable.......

I met a man in Artesia New Mexico that had a red β€˜63 Marauder that was was that red/ red, loaded to the gills with a 427/4 speed, and all the bells and whistles. The story went he was a good friend of the Lincoln Mercury dealer there, and this rancher from Weed, New Mexico apparently was loaded and told his kid he could go to the Mercury dealer and order a new car for his high school graduation. A kid with no budget? What a world. So when this car came in the dad, after riding with the kid knew it was a death trap, so he bought a 390 automatic off the lot, and the dealer was stuck. So he called Frank and he bought the car. It’s still in their family, and it has 24,000 miles on it. What a car. He would get a lot of low milage trades from this dealer as well. That would have been the guy to know.

When I was growing up a guy my aunt dated for a really long time had a 63 1/2 Galaxie, red on black like this one. It had set out in the sun beside o his home for quite a while and the lacquer paint was cracked. I remember looking at it (like all musclse car/hot rod teenagers do) and I distinctly remember the "406" emblems on the front fenders. It was a factory 406/4 speed car. I asked him if it had the 406 and he said "Well it did until I put a 427 in it" and raised to the hood to show me the 427/dual fours engine. I was awestruck. Then he started it up and it was like fury unleashed - the most wicked sounding car I had heard until that point.

This car reminds me of that one and that experience.

It would be cool to see someone put a 500 XL drive train and interior in a country squire.

Funny you mention that Mark. I have some friends In Idaho that found a β€˜63 Country Squire (turquoise) that was specially ordered with an XL interior. Unfortunately the car was in Minnesota so the body was pretty shot, but they transferred the interior into a white β€˜63 Squire they had.

Yeah, if you had a cooperative Ford dealer, you COULD special-order a Country Sedan or Country Squire with the 500XL interior - buckets and floor shift console. It was never advertised nor mentioned in the brochures. There was connection already there though - bucket seats and a console WERE available on the Falcon Squire.
