LOVE the little '63 Tempest wagon in #30380 above ^^^
Looks like it's been beat-up a bit though.

This is what is called the 'Theme Building' at Los Angeles International Airport, that was built in the very early 60's as a part of a whole new terminal complex that ushered in the 'jet age'. The FIRST concept for the new terminal was to build a HUGE domed building, and put all the individual airline facilities inside it. This was apparently 'pie in the sky', so they just ended up going with a more practical design for all the terminals and gates. The Theme Building was thrown in to the mix to give the airport an identity, which it did....but it didn't have much of a purpose, otherwise. There was, at one time, a restaurant behind those windows, but it was never self-supporting, financially. There is also an observation deck up top.

One sort of funny thing that happens when people 'remember' their times at LAX. Some talk about remembering the 'rotating restaurant' inside the Theme Building, and you could end up seeing the entire airport complex while you ate. The problem though, is that the restaurant NEVER revolved, and wasn't even designed to revolve.........

There are revolving restaurants, for sure, and an entire revolving building (Space Needle), but who on God's Green Earth would want to see an airport? I love aircraft, but I don't have my nose glued to the window at Sea-Tac or San Antonio International.

^^ My first 'paycheck' job was as a busboy/dishwasher at the local IHOP on west Washington Bl in Culver City. Lasted about 8 months or so until I sliced open my thumb cutting oranges for the fresh OJ. Boss had to drive me to the urgent care place for stiches. Scar's still visible. Got fired shortly after. Got a better job that lasted 4 1/2 years, through the end of high school and college. Original IHOP I worked at closed a long time ago.
