I was wondering what year had the highest sales for station wagons. I found an article that stated this: Station wagons reached their sales peak in 1976 when U.S. sales stood at 972,212 and accounted for 10% of all vehicles sold in the U.S., data from JATO Dynamics shows. That same year, there were 62 station wagon models available to American car buyers. Does anyone know what was the bestselling wagon of 1976?
It was either a Toyota, or a Chevrolet, owing to the fact Toyota was the biggest foreign seller and Chevrolet was the biggest domestic seller.
Probably the Ford full size wagons with over 47000 units just for the country squire in 1976. The Ford was usually the best selling wagon of any year in the 70's.
Well, for 1977 the Caprice wagon sold 56,569, and 57,744 in 1978, and 56,261 in 1979... Chevrolet Caprice - Wikipedia It mentions that the Caprice was the most popular car in '77, and third in '76 but doesn't show wagon only numbers for that year. The Oldsmobile Cutlass was best selling car for 1976, and 1978-1981.
