We just saved a '63 Imperial Crown from the yard. My son and I always wanted a 50s or 60s Impy and this was the generation at the top of the list. It was scheduled to go into general population that morning. It is amazingly complete and a solid straight Albuquerque car from new. It is totally complete, but probably hasn't spinned a tire since the mid 80s. She was too regal of a dame to be in there with all of those other junkers. Maybe we can name her Liz Taylor or Jackie Kennedy? It is going to be neat to get things operable again, and the plus side it keeps my kid busy and out of trouble. He's a natural born tinkerer and it's good to see a 24 year old that loves big yachts like we do. Glacier blue with a blue interior. It will be keeping company with two other Impys - a LeBaron and a Crown at my son's friend's workshop. BTW, we found a NOS '81-82 Plymouth Reliant grille in its original box in the trunk, if anyone's interested.
Nice Bill. You didn’t tell me it came with a toilet seat! Really neat car, and like you said a great project for Anthony! It’s not missing a lick of trim, even the hood ornament. Can’t wait to see it! So glad it got out of there. It would have been sad to see that crowd defile it for an emblem or two. How much stuff would have been just broken off in the process. Tell Anthony first tank of gas is on me once she’s up and running!
I used to have an HO scale kit of Mopar cars, and I think that one may have been one of the four or five cars in the kit. Does this Imperial have the non-circular steering wheel?
Yes, the streering wheel is a squared circle. Kind of a squircle. I had a '64 Newport like that also.
I had a ‘62 LeBaron. The toilet seat was not available in ‘62 on the Imperial, but I can tell you with the aqua back lighting it was one of the prettiest night time dashes I’ve ever seen, especially against bright orange needles. The only issue I ever had with that car was the long two piece torque tube, if memory serves me. I really enjoyed that car.
Thanks everyone! As for the terlet seat on the trunk - apparently the trunk lids are the same from 60 to 63, so say if you didn't have it, you could take one from another year and it'll work.
I had a '63 LeBaron, beige, with beige leather. It was an Ohio car, and had rust along the rear fender tops, where the chrome is. It belonged to some food company, don't recall the name. Someone had replaced the 413 with a 440, according to the guy who ended up with it after me. It was a weird car, and I don't mean the design, just the weird things I dealt with. In November, '61, when we moved into the house I'm living in, our neighbors on the left had a '60 2 dr hardtop Plymouth Fury with the toilet seat. It was a pretty two tone light and medium blue. Thanks for saving this Crown, it'll be a beautiful restoration.
I think you could get the terlet seat on certain '59 Plymouths. And they even had them on first-gen Valiants too.
You could get the toilet seat on '59 Plymouths, and I do remember the Valiants with them, but more from ads than seeing them in real life. I had a friction model '59 Imperial Crown coupe with one also.
