No Reserve: 406-Powered 1956 Chevrolet Carryall Suburban for sale on BaT Auctions - ending June 9 (Lot #75,655) | Bring a Trailer I think this is an awesome looking vehicle
They built it for some price. Whether it was over or under what it sold for is anyone's guess, and only known to the builder(s).
I get your point Mark that you can’t haul stuff out of a yard anymore and have someone else do it. Even in the land of entrapment, NM where cash is king body and paint is still pretty expensive. There was a guy I heard talking about a shop in Nebraska of all places that put a $55,000 paint job on a ‘59 Eldorado. Perhaps worth it, but it better has not needed much else. Lol. Of course this could all be a moot point. Car haulers now are in the $2.50-3.00 per mile area to move something. This hobby is way more expensive than it was in 1986. Lol. Of course what isn’t.
I think that the car hobby has gotten more expensive, just like everything else. But I honestly believe it has inflated to a greater extent than many other things have. Twenty five years ago when I was in High School, a teenager with a part time job could still afford to buy a classic car and do some stuff to it to fix it up. You could still get a Maaco paint job for something like $600. I couldn't imagine a High School kid today being able to do the same thing. The cost of classics has gone up, parts have gone up and paint jobs have skyrocketed. I don't have any hard and fast data to prove this, it's all based on my observations and experiences over the past quarter century. Just my
Thank you for your $0.02 cents worth Jeremiah, however the cost of giving your 2 cents worth is now 5 cents.
Used to be one income got your family a nice life. Used to be you could afford college and pay it of working part time. Used to be you could by a house working full time at any job. Do you remember? Pepperidge Farms remembers...
Yeah the middle class is pretty much being decimated. I feel badly for folks having to work two jobs to keep things going, and to make ends meet. Usually they’re also not driving the most efficient cars and having the healthiest life styles. I don’t know what the outcome is going to be, but the plan seems to be getting clearer and clearer.
Well dropping the gold standard in 1971 probably helped get the ball rolling. The follow up in 1972 with wage and price controls/freeze most likely didn’t help either. I still have my WIN button. I should dig it out and wear it now more than ever. This is not new to us. We have been there and dug ourselves out. (1981) We need to realize that we can’t spend our way out of this mess. One of the foundations of inflation is increased money supply. Employees are in short supply, wages have gone up. It’s a sad spiral.
