I have been thinking about installing the roof rack on my 65, that came with the recently bought 64 vista parts wagon. Any thoughts or insights are welcome.

Big Scooby says its no mystery to him that it looks excellent and should be permanently attached not just for great looks but to carry fun stuff on top this summer!

Scooby is timeless, we watch Scooby as a family all the time...where i used to work the entire H.R. office was a scooby museum, I vote add the roof rack! roof racks and wagons go together like birds and feathers! and yes Longroofs rule!

I think it would be cool. Are you thinking about doing this mainly for aesthetic reasons? Or do you plan to haul stuff up there?

Right on. Nothing wrong with that. I was just curious.
I'm sure there has to be a piece of literature out there somewhere that has that information. I assume there was some sort of template that the assembly line used when installing them. But you have to think that a fellow could have walked into his local Olds dealership's parts department and ordered one. I would assume that there would have been instructions that came with the rack. But then most of them likely were thrown in the trash afterwards.
Don't give up, the information is out there somewhere.

Im not in the know enough about the differences between 64 and 65 wagons? but are they somewhat close enough that you can make a guesstamation from the existing holes on the 64 such as edge margin? and mimic it on the 65? and if the 64 rack is not the exact same as a 65 rack, exact location might not be as important since it wouldnt be original to the car? if it is the same rack of course i get it you would want it in exactly the correct place...must be a roof rack 65 out there somewhere that you could ask a front to back measurement which would be the important one...once you know that dimension you could assume the side to side dimension would be "centered" on the roof! then just "bombsight" and mark thru the holes in the rack, or "backdrill" thru the holes.. good luck! it will certainly add considerable "bling" and should be a rewarding fun project!

You need your specific year's Fisher Body Manual. It *should* have the correct locating diagram for the VC.

This rack only came with the 64, it wasn't on the car, so taking measurements is not a option . Also I have only visually matched the rack to be correct. I haven't matched parts numbers?....Longroofs Rule!.

I have the body manual for my 67, and I have not been able to find any mention of roof racks. I have the same rack on my wagon. It also have a wind deflect which clearly was not specifically designed for it. I suspect that luggage racks were dealer-installed options, not installed at the factory.
