Looks great! how many coats involved here just one? curious if a second coat using this process on something would flow even better and look even deeper?
Oil based paints are very tough, while you can do multiple coats I personally would wait at least a month to sand and add another layer. That said I do not recommend it. Oil based paints will lift and ruin a great paint job in a heartbeat if the re-coat windows are not followed strictly. The gloss is built into the paint it’s a single stage type like enamel but it uses a different curing process. You can google several 2,3,4 years later to see what to expect. They do hold up very well. The last enamel single stage I did went chalky within a year and therefore I’ll never go back to enamels. You can polish rustoleum, but give it a few months to cure and you can cut and buff but if you add enough mineral spirits it’ll lay out like you won’t believe. But it will take forever to dry. Mine was tacky 3 days later. Took almost a week to be able to re assemble. Another place I used rustoleum was on my frame. But I used a low gloss rustoleum here is what it looks like and this was done with an hvlp gun.
. Toybox06 ....... thanks for your input .... great examples of what a person can do at low cost .... even though I made my living painting cars it always troubled me how expensive it is for the car owners . Even though a low cost do-it-yourself paint job is far from "perfect" I like to say .... " it looks a heck of a lot better than before " I got called away to other things last couple of days but will resume posting about my adventures soon . .
