The current $6500 high bid surprises me considering the rust issues. If the rust extends to the area of the woodgrain, to fix it the transfer will have to be replaced. Since the woodgrain on the rest of the car will have faded somewhat over the last 49 years, the new transfer won't match. To make it look correct the woodgrain on the entire car will have to be replaced. If you get into that, you'll probably decide the whole car should be repainted as well. One thing leads to another, the project snowballs, and the cost skyrockets (been there). Considering this, I would have estimated the value at around $4500.

The bidding topped $6K within the first 24 hours after this car was listed. I can't help but find that curious. Most experienced bidders on ebay hold their bids until as late as possible in the auction to give competitors the least possible time to outbid them.

 

Went for over 9500. i seems like a solid car and definitely a good price (for the seller). lacking AC and the issues above mean a lot of work

 

It did look like a nice car, unfortunately as you pointed out, it needed some things done, and with no A/C did seem a little spendy.... Liked the story however.... but agree with ctrysquire that once you get into new paper, and paint, ka-ching ka-ching, not to mention new carpet and dash pad.... but it if someone is handy, they'll have a nice wagon on their hands.
