I thought only the Fox LTD's and Marquis came with the V6? But some where in the cars life a 3.8 could have been dumped in...but why?

3.8 was an optional engine that year for Cougar. Only 2 engines available the 3.3 inline and the 3.8 V. Personally other than the V having 32 more horsepower the engine in general is junk. Prone to headgasket failure and makes enough noise that you'd think it's generating 400 horses but NOT!!!

    HeyThat's Cougar country...

Since it was an option, the Straight Six will fit,,,AND can be built up.A super stock kit, better exhaust. The horsepower loss can easily be regained, probably even surpassed. If it's not EFI,TBI makes it get even better gas mileage,to boot...Oh,,,to have the money and time.;)

I'm just sayin'...I've seen the I6 mis-labeled many times, and if indeed the car does have a V6 it's a pretty rare item. Without a pic :16suspect1: of the engine bay it's just me...:stirthepot:...

Used to have an 85 T-Bird with a V6.Was told by car parts store workers "Oh,that's not the engine they usually have." several times.I'm thinking that, except for Buick,V6's were new contraptions,at that time. And they probably WERE the rarely chosen option.I'd take it with the V6 and see how long I could make it last. But once it's busted, find a Straight Six to replace it with...
