It's getting harder and harder to find a white wall tire, in the 235/70-15 Hankook makes the H725 80,000 mile tire, only in Black Wall. Every set I sold so far the customers seem to like them. This will be my first set and the price was only $2 or $3 more than some of the cheap tires. They are priced very reasonable.
Worked today but got to put a couple hours in on it today before the rain and wind shut me down and had to go and pick my wife up from her mom's. I now have the shifter in, radiator and carburetor on. May get to work on it some tomorrow but have to meet a guy from Jackson, Mississippi that's interested in my dad's Corvette I put up for sale for him. He wants to do another '47 to '54 Chevy Truck like we had 10 or 12 years ago and since the Corvette just sits, he said sell it.
It's running now! I tried uploading a video but it wouldn't let me for some reason. Still have a few things to iron out but it is running, finally!
Got it running and moving under it's own power yesterday, haven't got to work on it much but I am remembering the joys of a used motor. Finally got carb adjusted where it would idle down and was able to let it run for a few minutes and seen a good size oil puddle. The motor belonged to a friend of my dad, he just had a new cam, lifters, timing chain and carburetor put on it before deciding to do a LS swap on his car the engine was in. It looks to me like when they did cam and timing chain they just loosened oil pan, pryed down to get timing chain cover off and put it back together by squeezing silicone in front of oil pan and it wasn't cleaned and they didn't change the gasket. Doesn't look like front seal, looks like just oil pan, so I may get lucky. I will know in week or two when I get a weekend off to fool with it. Got the pan off anyway.
Clean that bumper up and paint it. Paint the oil pan orange while it's off. That will make it go faster.
It's already Orange...ish! Looks to have been painted sometime in last 20 years and I left it since it wouldn't seem right to have a shiny painted engine in that truck! It should be REAL FAST with it's estimated 225 hp small cubic inch 283 engine, 3.07 one wheel peel rear and 4,000 lbs body with the aerodynamics of a brick. If that isn't a recipe for speed, I don't know what is! I guess if nothing else it will make a good cruiser for my daughter and I for Crusin the Coast!
Hopefully back to working on the truck next weekend. I haven't touched it since end of May. My Mother-in-law unexpectedly took sick and I was bringing my wife back and forth to Hospital since she couldn't drive in New Orleans traffic. My mother-in-law passed away 26 days after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and my wife has had a hard time with it so between that and my dad's projects I just didn't have the time but now things are starting to get where I can start on it again. This '64 Chevelle project has me wanting to do a LS swap on the truck now. I'm trying to buy a wrecked '04 Silverado for the 4.8 to swap in it.
I always like this truck, it's honest looking. I need a truck, I need a wagon..... I need a winning lottery ticket!
My dad used to say "wish in one hand................S**t in the other. See which gets full the fastest." Get to work on that truck 1tire.
After work today finally got the oil pan and starter back on. If it leaks this time I'll just pull it back out.
