I was doing some perusing and I found out a little tidbit of information about Suzuki Forenzas which is made by GM Daewoo in South Korea. In different parts of the world this car has different names. Chevrolet Optra, Daewoo Lacetti, and Buick Excelle are just a few examples of rebadging the same car for different markets around the world.:banghead3: Whadyall think about that?
Ford Courier sold in the early 70's was a rebadged Mazda. Geo Metro/Chevy Sprint was a Suzuki Swift. Late 80's Chevy Nova was a Toyota Corolla and so on.
mazda b series is a ford ranger Isuzu i series is a colorado the ascender is a trailblazer the geo storm was an isuzu impulse
In Canada, Pontiac had a version of the Metro called the Firefly. The Chevy Aveo is also available as a Pontiac Wave in Canada. Pontiac also sold a bunch of cars under the Asuna brand Asuna Sunrunner: Geo Tracker Asuna Sunfire: Isuzu impulse
Found a list of vehicles sold in Canada, but not in the US http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vehicles_sold_in_Canada_but_not_the_United_States
It was a while back, and I had trouble convincing people it was so,but a Pontiac Firelfly was up for sale, here in the LA area. Not having seen it,or any others,I just told people it must be the Pontiac version of the Metro.Glad to hear my guess was right. They wanted to sell it for $1,500 or trade it for a similar car with an automatic transmission.Already had two cars and nowheres near enough money at the time...Kind of like Mercury's little stable of cat cars,eh?Trans-Am,Firebird,Firefly.Nothing in the ad that it was Canadian. And,at the time,California DMV really didn't like cars from out of state getting in.Maybe that's why it was for sale.An improperly imported car probably costs a lot to register.
In a bit of luck, you could say, or boredom I found out that it also goes by Holden Viva in Australia. That makes 5 different makes and models around the world this body style went by.
Imagine how confused the Senate and Congress was about which company to bailout! I wish the parts from the newer Australian, Brazilian and South African Fairmonts fit mine.
