Nice looking example of the super rare 'sporty' XSC option Toronado with bucket seats, sport suspension, gauges and sport steering wheel. Too bad about the diesel, though. http://nashville.craigslist.org/ctd/5922910240.html
I like the brown color scheme. The same steering wheel was offered on the '84 "Cliente" trim package, but that also came with a digital dash display. Frankly, I like this gauge cluster better. Downsides for me include the diesel engine and the horrible looking speakers.
Agreed about the ugly speakers. Pure laziness - new speakers could have been fitted into the factory outlets, but that would have required a little more time and effort.
Beautiful car but agree on the speakers, would not surprise me at all if some "hackery" was done to both the rear and door panels. That slip shot job takes soooo much away from this car you have to remind yourself it's still a diesel.........
Looks like it is recently from Washington state. This video does not help sell the car at all - negative if anything. Guy doing the narration seems very uninformed. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...B272987886DE9AC55EDFB272987886DE9AC&FORM=VIRE
A year earlier in 1980, this rare Olds (1980-81 only) could have been had with the 350 gasoline V8. https://myclassicgarage.com/marketplace/cars/all/Oldsmobile-Toronado/96512/media/815842
I was working for GM when these cars were new. One of my best friends bought a loaded Toronado every year from 80 to 85. He bought a Riviera in 79, but switched to the Olds version in 80 and liked it better than the Buick. These were great driving cars, but I never drove a diesel. It's a little tough for your passengers to get into the back seat, but these cars were a joy to drive.
I never worked for GM, but I worked with a guy who did, and he had an '81 Eldo diesel. Remarkably so, it rode like a gazelle, but accelerated like a sloth on fire (and that ain't very fast). so much legroom and headroom for my 6'6" self. He was a diesel fiend, and had a couple Gutwrench engines all redone and ready to be installed. That was in '96, so the car was 15 years old but only had 200+K on it when i drove it. Last I heard in 2003, he still had it. He's the one I told you guys about that had the late '70s diesel Gutless Cruiser that he drag raced against a friend with another diesel GM wagon at Seattle Intl. Raceway, and he won with a 21+-second time slip.
Agreed on everything. My late mom's favorite car was her 1985 Riviera, which I still have at 99K original miles. Automobiles will never have the same style again.
my dad had 3 a 77 green; 81 char grey - totaled out when hit by tractor trailer, it was parked, and finally the pimpmobile Tornado - a black 83 with tan leather and a complete "Fake:" tan convertible vinyl top, and yes he had vogue tires. Quite the statement for a guy that lived in a navy blazer, button down shits and khaki's. He loved the last 1; had the top replaced and painted in 98 and headliner replaced in 07 - never hauled anything in it - cause I had the wagon!
