We had a recent moving experience and decided it's past time to move back home. After all, we bought a small house back in Oct 2014 and it's been waiting for a couple old farts to live there. The '55 Chevy wagon is there looking for me. It's furnished, the AC will be on, and food will be in the fridge. Two of our kids are coming to get us and I'm gonna sit and look out the windows at nature. I am only writing to let my one or two friends know I won't be on the internet after July 4th until around mid July. Leaving here July 5th and not looking back. Leaving so many things and so many memories. But hopefully we can spend a few years together on Memory Lane. It's now or never.
I'm not sure why someone would leave the cold and then decide to go back, but have a safe trip. I hope you didn't forget how to drive in the snow, December isn't that far away.
We really didn't decide to go back. Health reasons did. One son mearby here is more trouble than help. Three kids with families and several old friends all within miles of the home there will mean we will get help. Everything else is very near even though the house is at the edge of town. We lucked out. All we do here is sit and stare out at the heat. All we'll do there is the same, only also with the cold six months of the year. Right now it's hotter in Illinois than Florida. I never did like driving in snow and ice but now I don't have to until the roads are cleared. It's small but hopefully we can handle it better than five acres here. Thanks.
Have a good trip, Cat! If you see a "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" sign painted on a barn along the way, take a picture and post it for me. I haven't seen one of those in ... Hmm ... 40 years or so.
Nice hip roof ranch, only a couple of steps to get in, good size overhangs, old enough to have been built by real carpenters with real wood, possibly with hand saws. Aluminum siding was a new big deal back then and wasn't a light gauge, that stuff is probably as thick as a new Ford F-150's body panels.
Built 1961 with real wood. I like the overhangs. Our other Illinois house had those. Here in Florida the double wide had like 2" until we had the metal roof added giving rougnly 8". I hate old white aluminum siding but a good pressure wash, adding some phony rock under the picture window, and a good clean up will help. The bush is gone, the pine was trimmed up to the overhang, a gravel 20X 110' drive was installed. All wiring in house and garage is in conduit. Under the carpet is real hardwood. It's small but that's what we need. The big thing is we can open the doors without hitting a neighbor's house. Half acre is plenty with farm behind.
I can understand your motivations for moving back. I hope it all works out wonderfully for you and Dollie. I am sure being close to family, grandkids and friends will be a great new chapter in your lives. Keep us updated with your progress and good luck.
Another adventure, how exciting. So you are finally on your way. I wish you and dear Dollie all the best. Having all those folks around will be fun. Kids at Christmas, Easter Egg Hunts in the spring, BBQ's on the 4th of July. Turkey and the family all around at Thanksgiving. In between all that eating I'm sure you'll be sharing all your experience with that neighbour with the large garage next door. And then there's cursin in your wagon showing off your date to the other fellows on the stripe. I thing your new house is sweet and cozy looking. Enjoy your new adventure.
ModelT1 My wife and I downsized a few years ago. We went from and old dairy farm house , 3,000 square foot with several acres. It took 5 hours to cut the grass! We could only see another house from one window of the old place, and that was several hundred yards away. We moved to a small house about the size of yours in town. I miss the storage buildings, and the large shop, but that is about it. After 20 years there it takes a while to get used to neighbors again, but that is really the only down side. Good luck, I am sure you will be glad to be by the rest of the family again. Jim
