What a screwed up mess! Opels are Chevies in Brasil. What I've read so far doesn't a thing about GM holding any part of Opel, and the Canadian Union was out of the loop too. They were grinning LARGE about the day that the new owners tried to sell any Opels in Canada, without building any in Canadian plants. Sounds like there's a few mountains to climb. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8078732.stm
The Chinese bought Hummer. And Obama is talking to the king of Saudi Arabia. Perhaps he's pitching another sale. If anybody should be kicking in some cash into this mess it should be them.
Yeah, I'm surprised that they weren't major share or bond holders, nor did they step up to buy into any of the 20 different companies around the world that had their hand out. Leyland Motors, Jag, British Motors, and a whole bunch we've never seen.
Hey Stormin' Norman, with your other thread about "Big Brother" and once General Motors becomes Government Motors, I reckon I might be worried about any standard 'satellite navigation' systems which may appear as 'standard' on ALL models.
I don't know about Australian GM buyers, but here, the Federal Government told GM buyers that they would honour the new car warranties, if GM went down. Last nite, they clarified (hahaha!) that only cars purchased AFTER April 7 would be warrantied. Gives you a warm fuzzy, doesn't it? I guess the OnStar (GPS) system fee could be paid directly to the service operator. Here it's $10 per month.
Big one- page ad / letter in today's paper from Fritz (forgethislastname), the GM chairman. Mentioned that warranties on ALL cars, either already purchased or new vehicles will continue to be supported - no change there (gov't says they guaranty that). Full text of letter probably on their website......
