Hadn't heard that, about the mobile smog checkers, but I wouldn't doubt it.When they changed the law recently, from your car has to reach 25 years of age before you don't have to smog it anymore---to thirty years of age ; some people were pushing for a smog test EVERY YEAR,not just every other year...AND,they wanted the smog check places to be government run offices,NOT places of business. They'd heard that some smog checkers give friends and bribers "free passes".The cars aren't really passing smog tests:49: That part didn't go thru because experts pointed out that it's hardly anybody that does that, and over 98% of California's cars actually DO pass REAL smog tests.;) And with the state government woefully under-funded,a whole new beauracracy is out of the question!:yahoo: As I pointed out elsewhere,"no expo facto laws" means, that as long as our wagons still meet the smog and safety standards of the day they were made, they'll still be road legal.:) BUT,that doesn't mean they can't come up with a law that says our cars have to be in brand new condition 100% of the time to be legally driven.:49: That's been suggested several times now...And,since other states have "no customizing laws",I would not be surprised if California adopted one too. They allready have a "no nitrous law".

one of the new england states has adopted a "no custom exhaust " law.
wife cousin went to vermont and stopped for gas in one state and was told by a cop that if his mercedes has thier plates it would be impounded.

it wont be long T, give it time and our cars will infact be nothing more than toasters. all the same, boring, but clean...very clean.

Well, my friends....I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember but I, for one, can tell you that the "good old days" are gone forever. I don't mean to be melancholy but, facts are facts. What a damn shame. The more goverment intrudes the more freedom we lose.

Unfortunately, what some of you fear for North America is or has happened down here.
We do have the EPA (Environmental Protection Authority) who get around in quasi police cars & uniforms. This agency already sets up roadside emmission testing stations to check on your exhaust. The powers granted to this authority make the police seem tame at best. (Cars can be impounded, fines issued etc,)
Some government officials are now discussing the banning of smoking in your own car...to protect children? The majority of us with children don't smoke in the car when the kids are onboard, however this is a guise for the gov to simply outlaw smoking altogether. We cannot smoke in any buildings (other than our own home), we cannot smoke in public places like sporting grounds etc, smoking is completely outlawed anywhere inside pubs, clubs & restaurants. When you want to smoke, you must stand a minimum of 4metres from a door or window.........it goes on and on and is getting worst with constant government interference.
There is talk down here on becoming a republic with an elected president, blah, blah, blah.......and the idea of a new flag. The new flag is the easy part I'm thinking something red!!
    Sorry, I'm ranting again

Sounds familiar, my friend. A red flag here would be appropriate as well. But....politics is not something that should be discussed at too much length in this venue, I suppose. :)

Since back in the 1900's,it's been against the law,to smoke in your own home,in New York City.It WAS about the children. It became considered child abuse to smoke in your house or apartment when there's children in it.And,since your neighbours could smell it too,it was abusing them...Just before closing them all down, due to budgets restraints,California announced plans to ban smoking at all state parks and beaches...Closing them all-together is a good way to do that.

In Italy it's illegal to drive your air cooled vintage car (VW and FIAT) between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Too much pollution.

I could have the hours a bit wrong but that's the jist of it.

Wow, the junk science fascist movement known as radical enviromentalism is well on its way to destroying the last vestiges of free-market capitalism and quite possible rational technological advancement. :banghead3:

Well, I have a parts car for every classic I have. They are stored on a family members farm. With the government progressing so rapidly I am sure they will be snooping around private property demanding "junk cars" be removed as they represent a possible environmental threat much like the Exxon Valdez.

I hate to sound paranoid.....but all the stuff people have warned you about (government controlled business (GM,Chrysler) and private property rights disappearing, taking from those who have and giving to those who have not are actually coming true.

Wait, is that a black helicopter hovering above my house?????? I'll go check and let you guys know wha.....................*Signal lost*

I've long been chafing from this movement to rid America of truly American cars. I long ago figured out, they won't be happy until all cars larger than a Taurus/Camry are lost and gone forever...rational technology...Have been thinking,if a hybrid drivetrain can move an Escape/Mariner Ford should've been offering it in the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis. The two kinds of vehicle aren't that much different weight-wise...A 30+ mpg Crown Vic would've been a big seller,I believe.;)
