The following is an extract from themotorreport.com.au regarding the record sale of a Ford Falcon XYGT HO Phase 3 sedan....... Not long after a pristine original XY GTHO Phase 3 Falcon went under the hammer for $AU650,000, another two GTHOs have hit the market. Shannons Auction Group of Melbourne told TMR that they expect the winning bid to be in the range of $AU650,000 - $AU800,000 for the 1971 the XY GTHO Phase 3 pictured above. What is it about these iconic Aussie muscle cars that send the prices through the roof? Released in 1971 the XY GTHO Phase 3 was the fastest sedan in the world at the time. Sporting a 351 Cleveland V8 with a four-barrel Holley 780 cfm carburettor and a higher compression ratio of 11.5:1, a combination which ensured power was nothing short of 275kw (370hp) at 5400 rpm. The ‘HO’ stood for ‘Homologation Option’ and meant you got bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, a front spoiler, a choice of 3 differentials and an optional close-ratio gearbox making the production GTHO very similar to the race version. Only 300 Falcon XY GTHO Phase 3s were ever produced and Shannons estimates there are less then 150 getting around today. Not a bad little investment considering the purchase price of $5,638 back in 1971! The pictured XY GTHO is due to go under the hammer at the Sydney Motor Show Auction next month and we’ll be there to give you all the updates. Darcy [Source: Shannons] Last year one went to auction achieveing almost $900,000 (AUD) However the owner passed it in......needless to say the economy has dropped and so has the value on these
And our North American falcons came with an inline 6 as standard but you could option for the 289/302 2V yet you luckey buggers got a Clevelandl Real cool cars but I would have a few hundred cars if I had that much coin,
This is what I want, can't remember if it was 400 or 600 made total. (The Cobra, 1st pic) Yup I'm jelious, in 77 you could still buy a real Ford with a Cleveland 4 bolt main down under and look at what Ford stuck us with for excitement, or lack of in 77...more or less all of the 70's after the Boss 531 and SCJ 429,s of 71

Ted, for some reason we just don't produce car mags with new twists. The Aussies do, and they've only got 22 million people. This one, for instance: http://www.autospeed.com.au/ What does a photocopier's parts have to do with car parts? Totally searchable, links to electronic gadgets you can build yourself or from a kit, for the car. Better aerodynamics on what you drive: http://www.autospeed.com.au/cms/search/index.html?keywords=Aerodynamics&x=26&y=4 Steam cars, old, modern and with current speed records, etc. We've got more green grass than the Aussies, but theirs seems greener. Good for them. Nothing new for us.
That's very interesting, after 1965 Ford Australia was supposed to be building their own models as opposed to assembling the imported US version......And that's another interesting point that the 1961 to 1965 Fords were supposed to be US imports but I can't seem to find (not yet anyway) a similar looking car? (I've got some Ford pics in the main gallery)
Had to BUMP this old thread! I'm still looking for my Mexican Fairmont's DANA 44 rear end trac-loc unit. Since I can read and write Spanish, which covers all but Brazil, I started digging beyond Mexico, and found this Falcon site in Argentina! http://www.todofalcon.com.ar/modelos.htm Even owner's manuals with engine specs! Right up to 1982 models, and they kept the original roundish look!
yes Krash , you are very close we were sold the 66 as a Mustang bred Falcon Aussie only model different grill and tail lights and I had a 66 298 burgundy wagon with cream interior which was traded on a 351 windsor XW GT Falcon Monza red with black interior both were awesome cars . a little history from Downunder
