I know it was in Colorado, because when I watched the movie with my mom way back when I was a teen, she told me she had been over that pass with Grandma & Grandpa, and it was the day North Korea invaded South Korea in June, 1950, as they heard the announcement on the car's radio.
I work about 15 minutes from RMNP> Worth the trip into the park and up and across trail ridge. You won't be disappointed!
Me too! But sadly my '55 Chevy wagon is sitting over 1000 miles away still apart with the radiator out and new AC not hooked up. And I'm not even on vacation!
Loveland Pass on old Rt 6 is what we used before the Eisenhower was built. Here's a description: "Loveland Pass is a high mountain pass in the western United States, at an elevation of 11,990 feet above sea level in the Rocky Mountains of north-central Colorado. It is located on the Continental Divide in the Front Range west of Denver on U.S. Highway 6. The twisty road is considered to be especially treacherous during the winter months. A steep, steady 6.7% grade, along with numerous hairpin turns on either side, make it difficult to snowplow the road regularly." It was always winter when we went over it.
