Is that the black hand-held one you would get at, like, Schucks? I had one a long, long time ago, but I lost the book. The tool I have is somewhere in my stuff....

I don't know what Schuck's is,but here it is usually Auto Zone or Advance Auto. Anyway,I bought it for one of the 4 '80s Crown Vic wagons I had, maybe it was in 1998 or so. It is black plastic hand held & plugs in to the EEC-IV, and I have the manual. If somebody wants it,I can pass it along.

We'll talk about that later...I'd like to get that for Steven's car. Speaking of which, I ran a manual KOEO and got two codes. I'll get back to y'all on that.

Well, got a 34 and a 63; found the EVP sensor good but some corrosion on the sensor o-ring and the vacuum connection, so I cleaned them. As for the TPS, it's showing a high reading, so I'll have Steven clean the throttle plate, then I'll adjust it or the plate stop screw.

Found out the IAC isn't working, so we replaced it, I adjusted the throttle plate and now it only occasionally stalls in gear, so after replacing the positive cable, the computer will go through the relearn procedure, and then we can go after vacuum leaking under the dash.

If you are working on a bunch of 15+ y/o OBD II cars then it might be great.

Dude, naw, we're working on cars nearly twice that age. My friend's Grand Marq is an '87.

I use the Ford NGS tester, it does KOEO, KOER, cyl balance test, and wiggle test. Depending on the adapters you have with it it can also do OBD II. The draw back is that it's Ford specific but that's ok with me.

Yes, but not everyone can afford an NGS tester, either. One of the shops I worked at had one, all up-to-date, back about fifteen years ago. I would love to have an MT2500, all updated to about ten years ago. That way, I can cover EEC II, III, IV, V/OBD II, as well as be able to help others with cars that the CEL is on. Except Eurotrash. They can all DIAF, as far as I'm concerned. They made their crap even harder to read that the Japanese car makers.

Global OBD II can kiss my rosy red fat @$$. Talk about a no-help POS.

sorry guys, for letting you wait for so long...
yesterday, I visited the snap-on guy to get the scanner...it is an MT2500 with several basic and trouble shooter cartridges for US and german made cars.
We tried to connect my Trans Sport with OBD1, but unfortunately the scanner didn´t work (missing power cable). We connected a new Generation scanner and I have to say, you were all right, there is not much you can do on these old cars. You can check for failure codes, but only for engine and the anti lock brakes, no transmisson, no AC etc...
Anyway, I will check with him later if the scanner works with the power supply and if it works, I will get it. At least it will help me with the failure codes on the TS and the windstar.
Thank you all for your support!

    Matthias

Remember, you won't have transmissions, airbags, etc, until OBD II comes around. And 'live' data, such as it is, comes in on full size Fords in '88 or '89. But that does suck the scan tool was shot.

yeah, you´re right and I am completely aware of that. But anyway, it could be worthy in the case you have a (engine) problem and get a failure code easily at least.
Right now I feel it could turn out to be more useful for my TS or my sisters in law ´97 Windstar. In Germany, chances are extremely low to find a shop capable of repairing a TS, so in case it lets me stranded (what it so far NEVER did btw), any hint could help to get it running again.
We´ll see if he is able to get another one. Usually these MT2500 are traded in for something newer, but I have no idea how many of these are still out in the shops. I do not think he got another one since I´ve started this thread...but he told something about another guy...so maybe...we´ll see...
but besides this, the connector for the EEC IV is still available for the MT2500 from snap on.

    Matt
