Well finally pulled the trigger. I bought myself a brand new crate
motor from GM Goodwrench for the old Woodie wagon.
The old 305 was getting tired. I bought a 350 4 bolt main
    290 HP.

You know you can push that 290HP engine well over the 300 mark with some changes. Got to love Malibu wagons.

The 350 crate motor cost me $2300.00 Canadian plus tax.
That was the best price I could get.

That's a good price. Where did you get it?
And where are you located, if you don't mind me asking?

That's a pretty good price. Let us know when you get it in and how you like it.

Check prices on these crate engines from Scroggin-Dickey, Pace Parts, Greenwood Chevrolet. Magazines like Car Craft,Hot Rod,SuperChevy and such are great to buy and look through the ads to find them reasonable.

The new motor is installed already. I am having small
issues right now. Can't get everything dialed in yet.
The original carb is loading up even though there is a new carb kit
installed. Might have to go with larger jet size or get rid
of the quadrajet and go with something "newer". The stock rear
gears aren't steep enough because the bottom end seems to be flat.
I think the original "posi" might be in the 273 range.
The car really doesn't starts to pull hard until after 40 mph.
I am thinking the stall speed in the converter might be the blame.
I might need something like 1800-2000 stall speed. My daily driver
is a Hemi Magnum R/T so I might have a little too high expectations
    from the Malibu wagon.

Just to answer some question about the Malibu.
The wood grain is shiny because it is after market. The car never came
with wood grain...I like wood grain.
The Malibu is a southern car..no rust ever!
The car sits on 17 inch American Racing Hopsters, with
    45 and 55 series tires.
The front spindles are Bell Tech drop spindles.
The car has 3 spd automatic with power steering, power brakes
factory air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, posi rear,
power rear door window wings (rare),cruise,tilt,am-fm cassette,
    power seats,tinted glass everything works.

Here is a photo of the car before I modified it to a Woodie wagon.
