Today, I was going to buy some supplies, and went by a house that used to have a Pontiac clamshell at it. I'm going down the street, not sure which house it was, and come upon a Pontiac Grand Safari...but a different one!

The one I used to see was a '71-'73 model, and this was a '76!
    Check it out!

    Manual tailgate!
Some rust behind the rear wheel, but none visable around the windows.

    A low-optioned 8-passenger with Rear Window Defroster!

Hard to see, but the dash is cracked.

I was thinking the same thing. Some vinyl looks bad as it ages. That one just looks "broke-in and comfortable".

I'd fix the clamshell, sort out the rust behind the rear wheel, put original-equipment rear-view mirrors on the doors, renew the cladding and give it a good service and polish. It would be ok then, I think.

    Some more pics...

This is the only real damage on the whole wagon, other that the rust spot behing the LH rear wheel. No big deal, and even the molding is ok. (y) This could even be repaired without messing up the weathered woodgrain!

This area had mold on it! Still wearing it's UNLEADED FUEL ONLY sticker.
I think the mold is strange, because this is an area of lots of use...the way these things drink. :p

The roof rack is beautiful! Chrome still shiny, no pitting.
I would love a roof rack like this!

Hey tsynek, yeah, Mr. Rolling Rock!
I went by hoping to see the cream and green one*, and came upon this!
I'd love to talk with him. Who knows what in the garage. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima

    David :)

*his '71-'73 is cream colored, and where the woodgrain used to be, he painted it Kelly green! :disagree: I see it driving around from time to time.

I have an add to buy a driver wagon on the derby site and he sent me a text wanting to know if I was interested in this Pontiac. I never got back to him because I'm looking for one that doesn't need quite that much work. I didn't even get a price from him but I do have his number.

So I'm going to revive this thread for a strange reason.

Your title says 76 safari, but you show & mention the manl. tailgate. Well I have a 76 safari that's truly BONE stock but with a power gate. When I bought the car I thought that was odd but after getting the dealer brochure it said power was standard. for 76.

Is this really a 76, or is my research wrong?
