Police Called as American Tourist “Shocked” to Discover Canada has its “Own Currency” http://forums.canadiancontent.net/hot-topics/140680-police-called-american-tourist-shocked.html Do other countries have there own currency too?
Tsk, tsk.......... naughty, naughty , and she's 46yo too! Where has she been, under a rock?? I worked PT in a store on Saturdays, they hired a young girl for cashier, they had to explain what postage stamps were to her, lol! Unbelievable how some people get through school in this country!
Well did you notice she's from that other country, Indiana. This could explain lots of things. By the way what's a postage stamp?
Do Canadian businesses accept American currency, because American businesses sure won't accept Canadian currency.
Living Close to the Boarder I have found that when the Canadian dollar is weak (as it is now) Canadian Businesses gladly accept US dollars (at the face value of the Canadian Dollar) and give you your change in Canadian Dollars. So they pocket an extra 20% or what ever the exchange rate difference is. As I write this I looked up the current exchange rate A CD is worth 0.73 of a US Dollar. So its actually 27% Lower. I play the game as well on the boarder crossing's the Bridges or the Tunnel accept either currency at the same value. So $10 Canadian is accepted as $10 US.
We have no boarders here in Florida. They acept drugs, guns, and illegals. Just don't bring any ornamental or garden plants in that may be harmful! Any Canadian coins I get I treat just like when I recieved them. A quarter is still a quarter.
You bet, and particularly closer to border. As was said, the establishment usually will post an exchange rate at the cash register and give change in Canadian cash. While the store gets the benefit of the exchange, its usually pretty close to what the rate would be at a bank. And many American businesses also collect Canadian currency. Across the border from us in Washington are the towns of Blaine and Bellingham, and both rely on business from Canadians, so they are more than happy to accommodate us! With the Canadian dollar so low right now, fewer Canadians are going across the border to shop and many businesses there are feeling it!
Good job Honey, what a great way to represent your homeland. It's bad enough she didn't know about the currency, but then to make the ill-informed statement "I thought it was just another state, like Alaska" Some people's kids...
I remember making g a purchase in Burlington, about an hour south of Blaine on I-5, and I was making a purchase at a convenience store with a Susan B. Anthony Dollar coin; the dumbfawk middle-aged idiot man looked at it and asked "Is this Canadian?" He must've been blind without glasses. How in God's name do you miss "United States of America," let alone "E PLURIBUS UNUM" struck into it?
"Boarder" - A person living in a home or apartment that is there temporarily. "Border" - An invisible line, delineating the boundary between states & nations.
