Hey everybody, I am Jay. I am pretty new to wagons, just got my first one a couple years back and now I am collecting parts for it and starting the build. I love art, tattoos, music, old cars and my wife. not necessarily in that order! Look forward to talking with ya'll.
, looks like a cool ol wagon. The parts your collecting, are they for the front? I see your missing the grille and your bumper, is it "tweeked" a bit?
Welcome! Nice '70 Kingswood. Good one to start off with - lots of parts available, and you can do a lot with them.
I need a bumper, hood, driver's side fender and back window glass. I have already found a grill and bumper grill insert. I could also use to have the front seat reupholstered as well as a driver's side arm rest. The "rest" is pretty "good". Oh and carpet......... I am having problems finding good sheetmetal. Don't know if I should just try to have mine repaired instead of finding new? The back glass was fine when I bought it, but it was in my driveway and the mower kicked up a rock or something and well you can figure out the rest. It is kept in the garage now! and did I mention it only has 53,000 original miles! It runs great and I have a ton of 350 SBC junk.
Welcome Jay! You'll get more 'parts' answers in the Parts Wanted section. Like you, we're always in the chase.
Welcome to the club Jay! I saw your car was bought at Rt 31 Auto Sales, how did you like dealing with them? I live in the Cary, Crystal Lake area....I have seen a few cars hes had.
Yeah, I bought the wagon at Rt 31 about 3 years ago. Actually, It was an even up trade for a race ready quad I had. I think the trade was fair and they were cool people. No surprises with the car, they were honest about it and told me it's history. I also had a friend buy a truck (lowered black chevy dually short bed) off them and he had a good experience. I would go back if they had something I wanted. I will say their asking price for a clean car is a bit high, but what else would you expect for around here! Let me know if you would be interested in going to any local shows or skip's or anything, my wagon is far from ready, but i still like to go and hang out.
Yea, around here anything solid and past 20 years, most ask a pretty good chuck for the price. However, I have gotten cars from the south or west from ppl coming here to the Chicago area. There was a Dog & Suds car show yesterday in Fox Lake (I think), I wanted to go but missed it. My wagon would have not been allowed, it was for 1973 and older. Still, I would have liked to have seen what showed up. You in any car clubs in the area? I belong to "Steeters". There are about 75 members but about 30-40 are always active. The cars range from wild customs, restored police cars, and a few clean daily drivers. It dose not matter if you have a Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford, or anything else, its just car guys keeping the hobby alive and well.
I think it was the dog n suds in grays lake, but I didn't go, had something goin on. I should have mentioned earlier, There is a show in Volo this weekend, I think it will be mostly the museum cars, but I am headed up there in a bit. http://www.volocars.com/spring-car-corral.htm Never heard of your club. Do they have a web page or anything? I have never been into clubs much. I have a group of friend all into custom cars (from any year), but we have never been involved with clubs. No offense, but never really saw the point of a club. We don't need matching jackets and a name to hang out and work on cars. I guess my thought comes from my family being in motorcycle clubs as I was growing up and seeing all the stupid sh@t they got into and unnecessary, unwanted, police attention they attracted. A club is to close to being a gang. Sorry, if I sound like an ignorant dick.
Nah, no worries. I'm not much of a "club" type guy eaither. I knew most of the guys already from a model car club I belonged to as a kid. So most of all have full size cars of what we are into. It just sorta molded into a club, a small group of us would get together for shows and swap meets around the Chicago area, then it grew. There are no dues, no presidents, but some guy owns his own shop and will make you a jacket or sticker for your car. I never did buy one. When it comes down to it, its a great way to get valued information on parts, websites, dealers, anything dealing with our cars. As of a website to this club, in all honesty, I have no clue if they do. I just come and go when I please. The club dose send out e-mails for up coming shows/meets and sometimes when guys are looking to buy or sell parts.
We are thinking about going to St. Charles tomorrow for the memorial day show at Goody's. Unless I can't talk my wife out of wanting to go "antiquing"! We'll see what happens. The show at volo was kind of lame and they charged $12 to get in! All of the cars there were for sale, and at insanely high prices I might add. Man, I wish I could roll in the wagon, but the trans is laying on the floor next to it right now. Oh well, eventually............................
I used to go to Volo all the time in the 90s, just to "get away". At that time, no one knew about it and I'm pretty sure I was able to get in for free for a long time then it was $2 for a few years.... Then the yuppies moved in.....it changed EVERYTHING around the quieter burbs. The cars at Volo at one time went for a "normal" price, haven't seen that for a long time. Sad to see such a good thing loose its true charm. I just got the trans rebuilt a few weeks ago in my '78. Its really the only thing I will not do on my own car. Let me know how St Charles goes. I work a 12 hr. shift Sundays........:banghead3:
