You can also get those covers from local parts houses. In the case of my Chero, I just installed a late '80s Ford truck wheel, which has cushioned leather.....
On my truck that I drove 10-1/2 years I had a cheap leather steering wheel cover from Discount Auto. It was still on there when I traded the truck. Used to buy them at Western Auto. In Illinois steering wheels get cold from Sept thru May so I always put a fuzzy cover on them. I always thought steering wheels got sticky from all the fast food while sitting at the drive in diner or movies. But I do remember some leather type wheels were so sticky it was difficult to turn the wheel.
y solution to the sticky GM Standard and Custom Cushion steering wheels, I just found an almost impossible to find Sport Steering wheel in the correct color for my 78 Catalina. I like the thicker softer wheel, I have always hated the feel of the thin plastic GM wheels. I hope this one is as nice as it looks in the pictures. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-87-Pon...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
I've bought leather steering wheel covers from J C Whitney before. They look good and don't cost a leg and an arm. TIP: when you install it, don't be afraid to pull the lacing VERY tight. I don't think a normal human can tear it, and it'll stretch to fit well.
