Because the "high bidder" was a shill?

Ebay doesn't like it if people say this in their auction listings. :)

Still a rare Olds wagon. Lack of bids may be do to hoops you have to jump through to bring a car from Canada to U.S..

I never noticed it was in Canada. In Kelowna, BC to boot. Looking at a map, that looks to be in the middle of semi-nowhere. Getting it to almost anywhere in the U.S. would be an effort.

To be honest, this car is in poor enough condition that he should be trying to sell it locally as a used car to someone who needs a beater. There's just too much wrong with it for someone in, say, Ontario or North Carolina to consider buying it and transporting it 2,000 or 3,000 miles. He's wasting his time with ebay.

Agree the location is drawback, but not to relegate it to beater/parts status. It's condition is not that terrible IMHO - also it is rare.

Frankly, the car already IS a beater (no car with duct tape holding parts of it together will be perceived any other way), and the market is telling him that by not giving more than about $1000 for it. It may be in the woods in British Columbia, but even if it were on a street corner in Manhattan, it would probably still have difficulty attracting any more dollars than it's getting now.

We've had this discussion before! :)

Rarity means nothing! If a car is not desirable, it could be the last one on earth, and it wouldn't attract any interest.

THREE aspects have to be true for an old car to have value. Condition, rarity, and desirability. This car has only the middle one. It's in poor condition, and station wagons are always low-interest vehicles no matter how much we on this site love them. That doesn't bode well for its future.

Kinda sadly I have to agree somewhat. I like my Hoover 62 Vacuum (1950s) which I paid $2 for plus tape (to the bag and bellows) and a new light bulb which cost $4.12. It doesn't mean though that everyone on the planet is looking for one. It's a real long-lasting vacuum made out of metal, and there are still people buying new stuff from Walmart or a vacuum shop. It's not bad to do that, I'm just saying it as an observation.

Has anyone found out if these ads are current? They all seem to have the same listing and pricing as some previous eBay auctions of the exact same item...

I had the impression that Kelowna was a high income area. My Montego came from there. It cost about $2K, including customs fees, to get it to Maryland. Not a deal breaker if the car is in decent enough shape and you want it badly enough. Apparently not the case for this OCC.
