Luckily I had all the trim pieces except for one (though broken and battered Ive gotten them straightened out), and Im a member on a couple facebook groups and someone posted pics of a wagon in a California boneyard, and I immediately called. Was able to get a couple other small wagon-specific pieces I needed too. Rear gate window switch lock cylinder, and the retaining nut for the dash-mounted gate window switch too, its some off-the-wall pipe thread from what I could tell. I am a fan of green, but agree that on a car it needs to be the right shade, some of those newer Camaros/Mustangs out there with those "grass green" shades are absolutely hideous, lol. Since the woodgrain itself is so difficult to restore (apparently) I've been tossing the idea around of going custom, and doing the trim and where the woodgrain vinyl goes in a different shade of green. Been thinking about Ford's Lime Gold. My buddy has a gorgeous Lime Gold 67 Ranchero, I'll provide a pic.
I have seen the green that's on the newer Camaros....you're right....it's an absolutely hideous shade of green. The Ford lime gold is a cool color. I think that would look trick on your wagon. As for the woodgrain, there's companies that make a nice woodgrain material. In fact, a member of this site, and a guy that I've known over the years had used it on his Malibu wagon. It happens to look pretty good. I've also seen woodgrain done in airbrush, and that also looks nice. I'm sure the OEM stuff is NLA...and it probably would be compromised from being stored over the years.
Longroof...yes the OEM stuff is pretty well compromised. I have a roll (only 1 though) of the NOS material Ford used. Mine has the black lines in it along with the woodgrain, and I'd like to keep those in there if I do go with woodgrain. I may have to look into the guy you know. If I do go bck to the woodgrain, I'd like it to be as correct as I can cost-effectively accomplish. Im leaning more and more towards custom though.
Welcome aboard! I believe there is a song that says "Detroit Rocks". I agree. As a FORD fan, I must admit that the 390 makes me jealous. Keep us posted on your progress with this gem.
