A 73 Plymouth with power locks and cruise control is higher optioned than most. People weren't as quick to waste the money on power windows, locks, split front seats, or optional radios back then. If the wife was a lot shorter than the hubby then split seats became sensible and power locks if small kids were in the back seats to try to open the doors would have been a good thing.
OPTIONS? We don't need no stinkin options! I bought several new cars and trucks without even AC in Illinois. We didn't mind pulling door lock buttons up or cranking windows. In mostly city traffic or pulling an RV cruise was useless.
The only option on my Fairlane is the automatic trans. Manual steering, brakes and tailgate crank. Rubber mats and radio delete. Pretty sure the heater/defroster and two speed wipers were standard. I don't mind one bit.
If an old car has tilt and A/C, it is enough for me, lol. Oh and the wagons must have 3rd seat and wood-grain. I do wish my wagon had power windows and power locks however. Yeah, we didn't see a lot of options on the wagons back then... mine has a few options, but certainly not all options it could have had. I remember a '72 Buick Estate Wagon awhile back, NO options at all. Not even A/C or radio!! My '73 Pontiac is a much nicer optioned car than my Kingswood Estate, being a Grand Ville which was a luxury car at the time, but I have seen even some of those lowly optioned. I have seen them even with crank windows, same goes for the early 70s Buick Electras.
Don't need More power. I had my Dodge quadcab truck 10 1/2 years. I set the tilt wheel 10 1/2 years ago once. It had AC which was used everyday except when the heater was used. That was only because there were no vent windows to keep down the wind noise and wind from blowing my hair do. So with AC I didn't need power windows and I have no idea if the tilt still worked. I now have a new car with power everything. I reset the power seats, power mirrors, and adjusted the tilt. Chances are it will remain the same for the next 10 1/2 years. The power windows will go down only when passing a toll booth which i rarely use. I could use the key in the door lock if it didn't have keyless entry and remote start. I do think it's cute when the girl inside my dash says goodbye when I turn off the radio! Cars could be thousands of dollars cheaper and easier to maintain without all the power accessories.
I think myself that the important imformation in the ad is that it says it is quite rusty on the underside. I would want to know all about that rather than any options it did or did not have then I don't like rust ( HA )
I bought it, sight unseen. I just couldn't resist. Haven't had a chance to crawl underneath it yet....it has rained every day since it came home to me on Sunday. The good news: it is totally unmolested. Everything looks original, and it is all there. There's surface rust but I think this wagon can be saved. The frame is straight. That 400 turns over on the first turn of the key and sounds bad-ass. I'll keep everyone in stationwagon land updated......
