Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a tailgate cable for my 68 CP? The one on mine is too long and allows the tailgate to bottom out on the bumper. Thanks, Wayne

I had a rusted out tailgate cable on an '88 Country Squire, and I was told at the Ford parts counter that the part was obsolete. This was in 2007. You might look at some cables for pickup trucks that might be similar in design. Or,you could get some raw cable, and with the appropriate tool, swage an end on there. That's what I was going to do,but then I sold that car.

I have no idea how the cable is run. But remember on emergency brake cables using small U-shaped adjustable shorteners.
On tri-five Chevys there are cables plus a tape that looks like a tape measure in a holder.

Take the old cable to the parts store and try to find a visual match.
IIRC, a Ranger pickup cable is the same, or maybe 1/4" shorter.
It worked on my '85 Squire.

The Dorman "HELP!" section has several designs.
