1972 Buick Estate Wagon

    Gee, I don't consider 16mpg with the AC on too bad in the wagon. A couple of years ago we drove the wagon from near Columbus, OH to South Bend, IN for the Buick Club of America national meet, and we were heavily loaded with stuff to vend with. Averaged 16+ mpg for the trip. Our 72 Electra will do better as, believe it or not, it weighs less and has a higher gear (Electra is 2.73 and the wagon has a 2.93 gear). A properly tuned Buick 455 will run circles around a small block chevy and get better fuel economy at the same time. People talk horsepower and drive torque was the quote from Denny Manner, the retired Buick engineer that is the father of the Stage 1 455 and up to the latest Series III 3800 V6's.

    I'd be happy with 16 MPG in any wagon with any engine. And I goofed about calling the Buick 455 a Chevy 454.
