Finally had a chance to take the ole 67 wagon out for a spin today and less than 3 miles from the house a deputy sheriff lets the bubblegum machine hit the jackpot behind me. I do all the niceties' as he walked around my wagon which is half covered in decals and just under the high decibel limit but still perfectly legal. I could see him "Hmm" and "Huh-ing" the entire time and then he got on his knees and took a look under the car. He finally got up and walked up to my window and asked for my paperwork which I was happy to provide in the hopes of avoiding a citation.
"Is this car legal for the street sir?" he asked and I assured him that it was. No explanation. Just "Have a nice day sir"
Pulled into my local autoparts store that sort of sponsers me and a city cop follows me into the lot. "Sir, are you kidding me?" he says giving the car a good once over. "I've never seen anything like this on the street" his partner "blurbed" out. After a quick explanation and a longer tour of the car, especially the engine compartment where I hide my dual quad 427 small block Ford, They both wished me a good day and warned me to "Keep it under the speed limit, sir."
Driving thru town and on my way home, The ole Falcon Futura wagon hits the jack pot again and this time its another County Mounty. "The reason I stopped you sir is because you vehicle exceeds the limit for exhaust decibel noise levels." I show him the paper I got from the courts the last time I had an encounter with the law stating that the old Ford long roof was indeed within the state and county noise level limits. He took the form and walked to his car going straight for his radio. I sat nervously in my Ford as he seemed to be a bit more of a Serious Sam than the previous officers. When he returned to my window and pulled out his ticket book my heart sank. "Sir, I am going to write you up for modified exhaust." "What?" I replied. I just showed him the form from the courts releasing me from such an act of hair splitting where the law was concerned. I asked him when he was born and he said in 1980. "How the hell do you know what the exhaust on this car looked like from the factory? You weren't even born yet!! I was!" I scolded him. He offered to call his shift sergeant and we waited for the boss to show up. "Nice car. Did you do all this yourself?" The young officer made an attempt at small talk while we waited. "Yes." was my only reply. When the Sergeant arrived, I saw that it was the officer from earlier that day who had wished me good day. They talked for a bit and both walked over and apologized for the inconvenience and said I was free to go. I started her up and rolled away towards my neighborhood. The serious cop followed me the entire route right up to my garage door. A couple of dirty looks and he left.
I am still going to drive the car around town but I will do everything to sit on the lawful side of the street with that serious cop in town. I think he's got it in for me now after his daddy told him to let me go about my business.
Oh well. Just another day in the long roof life.
    Dave

It's easier than actually doing something to help protect the community.

    Huh?

I'm sorry sir! I laughed. :rofl2: I'm not sure what I would do about the exhaust to prevent other meetings with Roscoe P. Coltrain and Barney. Personally I'd quiet it down a bit.
On the other hand it reminds me of our 25 year old bull headed redneck son. He has loud exhaust on his bright red 85 Chebby long bed truck. Just looking at the truck from a distance lets police and old women know it's far from stock. He added TPI and a heavy duty 5-speed. I mean a reallly big 5-speed. He just replaced the cast iron TPI intake with an aluminum Edelbrock because he needed "more power.":)
We live midway up a 1/2 mile gravel road in the boonies. He has to come around from another paved road 1/2 mile away to get home. A mile away the cement plant has 12' concrete walls. Fun for downshifting and cruising past it! It's our exhaust test site!
His exhaust rattles windows before he gets close to home. Son says he's been checked and it's legal. To tease the local cops he cruises in town in third or second gear letting it rumble as he slows and speeds up.
I'm sure you don't do that. Every day I expect to get a call to bail him outta jail. It ain't gona happen! I like a nice mellow exhaust but think it's foolish to take it to the limit when police would rather stop you for illegal exhaust than arrest a rapist or drug dealer.
    Just my two cents.:2cents:

    Something's up Dave....

Seems like a LEO has your number, and doesn't like the fact that he can't find anything to cite you for. He's chatting you up with his fellow LEO's. That's why you got pulled over 3x's. NOT a coincidence. Keep a sharp eye out.

I'll also warn my daughter, who lives in Lincoln City, that they're tight....... She drives a stock Focus, but does tend to go a bit fast sometimes.

You're right Marshall. Around here the cops pull young kids over and take their papers to check them out. Often they "forget" to give everything back to the driver. After they let you go another cop pulls you over. You get a ticket for no registration, license, or whatever they held back.
    Here to protect?
If you are a cute young female they sometimes make "other" arrangements.

:disagree:This may not happen in your neighborhood and I could be mistaken. :disagree:

Had a little piggy in my town (and yes, he was a pig!) give me grief all the time. I had just turned 18. One day, I was driving down the four-lane Main Street, inside lane, no traffic, minding my business; when a '66 Chevy pickup came across the intersection and t-boned the door on my '67 Biscayne. The cop wrote a ticket saying I hit the truck!!! I asked him if he went to school and understood basic physics, to which it was impossible for ME to have hit the truck. That pissed him off (ya think!). The ticket pissed my Dad off even more, once I explained the circumstances to him. Dad knew the police chief, and HE explained to the chief why his officer was an incompetent asswagon. Long story short, my ticket gets thrown out, and Officer Asswagon gets an official reprimand. This officer was well-known for harassing kids, especially. He ended up getting fired over propositioning a 16-year old girl on a traffic stop. He was scum.

Can you see the exhaust tips from behind the car/ do they exit near the bumper?

That one thing they all use is visual cues, if they can't see the tip, lights.

I run straight pipes and cherrybombs on everything but I make sure it runs full out the back n they leave me alone.

Odds are you will be stopped again at some point. You may want to consider a slight change to make the 67 a little less tempting for getting harassed.
In my area now the cops stop more of the rice burner cars for loud stereos.
Back in the 70's I made a loud pass with one of my Chevelles while going thru an underpass. A cop followed me for several miles. I pulled into a park and shut the car off. He pulled in behind me and said "you were going pretty good under that bridge" and then asked me to start the car. I knew he was going to nail me for the loud and supposedly illegal mufflers I bought at Western Auto (remember those stores). I clicked the key a few times and faked a dead battery. Before he left he said I could not leave the car there so I told him I was going to go up the road and call my Brother for a jump (no cell phones back then). We walked to a diner, had a burger and then back to the car and drove away.

When you get pulled over, the cops run your plates and license to see if there are any outstanding warrants or problems. This puts you in the system and other cops will keep a lookout for your car. Sometimes if you give the officer a hard time, the others will pull you over just to harass you.

When I had my service station and had problems with some young diddybopper, I would call my buddy on the force. They would bolo his plates and stop him down the road looking for an excuse to arrest him. Then they would tell him they didn't want to catch him around here anymore.

Wow, Sorry to hear that your local Law Enforcement has no appreciation for our American Heritage...
I know it's not a station wagon ,but when I drive my 70 SuperBee (440 6pak) up by my summer home in central Wi, the local law enforcement give me a 'thumbs up'... Sad day for sure... :(

I've been bad mouthing the local law but all policemen are not the same. When I first got my 1955 Florida tag a State cop stopped me and ran the tag. He said mostly because he'd never seen an old plate on an old car and he wanted to look my wagon over.
The only other time I got stopped around here was on our way home from a Friday nite cruise with wife, son, and his friend. I was going up the narrow back asphault road rather than the 4-lane. A local cop pulled me over. It was a fellow AARP and bar room buddy. At the time he didn't know it was me. Said he stopped me to look at the 1941 Ford.
Other than those two times I've never had a problem in 21 years. Many times got thumbs up and waves from all sorts of police. I also run Cherry Bomb glass packs and duals.
My son on the other hand seems to attract the bad cops. I've told him I'd stop him too just because how he drives, looks, and acts.:chirp::character0182:

Not too long ago, I had a local cop pull me over. All he wanted was to get a closer look at my '66 Coronet. He asked if I wanted to sell it...I politely declined.

Sometimes those sons-of-guns start a vendetta to catch you at something....since you got away with something obviously.....:slap:

I was a volunteer fireman in high school, and some local cop went out of his way to stop me every time to see if I was here or there speeding. It was harassment...he never did ticket me but he sure kept trying! (Abington Township, PA).
