In my case, I have always loved cars. But I was always drawn to cars that were not too common. I got (and still am) sick of going to car shows and seeing Camaro's, Chevelle's, etc, and loved when you would see something uncommon. I think you can put a set of cool rims on ANY old car and it looks bitchin'. So, whenever I would see an old wagon I would slobber all over it. So, I finally realized in about 2002 that is what I really wanted was an old wagon. Now I have had several, have the 56 Chevy Wagon now and I WANT MORE !!!!! Plus, I want an old hearse. The ultimate wagon.

I grew up in the back seat of them. My family had,1969 Ford Country Squire-390, 1976 Merc Grand Marquis-460, and last an 83 Old's custom Cruiser.

I've always been a fan of LARGE cars.. especially large cars that go fast. I started with Impalas from the 60's with 396's/400's/427's and 454's and just fell in love. So when I saw my 72 TC with a 440.. I just had to have it. One of these days I will tweak the motor and it will fly down the track and shock a lot of people.

Like Kerry67 I like the odd, the different and the forgotton.

If everyone has it I don't want it. Like the Fabulous Fords show a couple of weeks ago. 995 Mustangs and 770 everything else.

I've owned a Vega, Pinto, Festiva, Mazda Rotary Pickup truck.

I like wagons cause not everyone has one. There were probably less than 20 wagons at the FFF show. Out of 1765 cars that's what I liked.

With my attitude I'll never retire on the value of what I like.:rofl2:

Hearses …. Not in the morbid sense. From the time I started turning a wrench I have always wanted to make a hot rod Hearse. Sounds kinda nuts I know, but its my thing. Now, of course the cost of a hearse is incredibly high so other ideas needed to be found.

When my youngest was born, there was not enough room for him and the rest of the kids in my Bronco. I don’t care much for mini vans, and full size vans while fun in their own right, are nothing more then creepy looking when you see a 30+ your old man climb out with a bunch of kids.

We needed something to fit 5 of us, so I started looking….
I found my wagon on Craiglist, and got a great deal for it. (I traded my old car straight up for it) It fit all the kids (which was important) and over time I found it lots of fun to drive. As a bonus, I can count on one hand how many wagons like mine I have seen on the road

    why?..

In 1965,when I was four, and my family was living in Marrietta Georgia(just outside Atlanta)my family bought a 1960 Ford Country Squire.White with brown Naugahyde upholstery. It was the car we used to move from Georgia to California in,in 1966.Driving cross-country was the adventure of a lifetime. My dad made sure we could take our time and not have to go as fast as we could, the whole time.We saw all sorts of things, along the way, including Carlsbad Caverns and the Grand Canyon. It was a "pioneer thing". Going new places, meeting new people, seeing new things and ending up in a new place(Burbank,Ca.) And it was that white woodie wagon that got us thru it all. We had that wagon a while longer, too. We still had it when we moved to Lakeview Terrace(the one in that Sam Jackson movie). And the next door neighbour lady had the 1968 Mercury Colony Park I would end up owning, years later. Another car associated with adventure,as that mom usually ended up taking the neighbourhood kids to the park and stuff...Family,adventure and happy good times. That's what stationwagons mean to me,and why I like them so much. And it was those two woodiewagons that built and strengthened that love.:yup:

I guess why I'm turned on by wagons is that you can have.....more.

i always liked having luxury features in my cars - even before I could drive, but my parents were the 'practical' sort, and didn't need the air conditioning, power windows, etc. Their first car with A/C arrived in 1969 - the year i graduated high school. I had a car with power windows in 1970. They didn't get their first car with P/W until 1990.

Anyway, when I saw a big beautiful '66 Bonneville Safari, and it had POWER EVERYTHING, plus lots of room in the way-back, I was hooked for life. Unfortunately, reality doesn't always go along with your dreams, so it's only been a couple of times when I've actually got to live my 'full boat' wagon dreams.

First time was in 1989 when I bought a used '84 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park. It burned up on me a week later in Las Vegas.

Then in 2004 I bought a 2000 Audi A6 Avant. Unfortunately, it had a lot of miles on it, and was very expensive to maintain. It went away.

to build on what taranau said!

My wife hates big cars and thinks her 4door ford focus notchback will be suitable for kids....we all know better right????

    1. i hate minivans (all the chrysler ones get that weird smell after a couple years too.)

    2. i love luxury cars, pickups, and versitility, this buick seems to be a marriage of all three. without the image of being a yuppie sucking down a starbuck latte while talking on my cell phone driving an ugly crossover or big suv

    3. I spent the last 3 years driving a 4cyl s10 that was completely gutless...i wanted POWER!

    4. i miss that era. yea, i realize it ended when i was a kid but so what...i wanna raise my kid with those values. values that it isnt just them in the world. that, you should help out others, be friends with the neighbors, eat dinner together with the tv off. and a wagon...to me....embodys those values and an era when they were commonplace!

Actually, you can get a GREAT hearse for 2-3 Grand.
As for wagons, like other cars, I do not like new(er). Anything after 1975 I am not really attracted to. So the new Volvos, Saturns, etc..., do nothing for me. That being said, I would take an 80's full size wagon as a daily driver as long as it had some cool wheels & tires on it. By that I don't mean the gaudy 20" rims either. When it comes to wheel size, I am old school so nothing over 15" for me.

You're right about that. The Focus has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever had. Daughter has one, too.

When kids could run amok in the neighbourhood, and the big worry wasn't if one of them would end up missing,it was that one of them might fall down and skin a knee or elbow...Some say that society of the time was more naive and/or didn't care as much. And that things are better now.I see,as we go more global,we go more isolated. That all this great concern for each other now, is more naive and less caring. It's more perfunctory now. It's not societal,it's something on a checklist.Wake up,pee, eat breakfast, don't be naive, care about something,go to work---as Shania Twain once asked,"is that a way to wanna be?"
