The relay that is mounted in the firewall for my squire's rear power window is bad. Anybody have any info on a replacement?

    Norman,

Any updates on where to find a rear tailgate window relay? The link above doesnt show much. Mine went bad too. It is the same one as the member above mentioned.

You don't have a rating for it, do you? Since my EVTM only deals with the Fox wiring for 1979, I don't have any specs on the Power window in the Tailgate. How about a P/N or Pic?

Also does it have to be from a 1967 model or would 1965 to 1970 work? Ford is pretty good at standardizing relays, for the Parts industry. A heated glass relay might be the same, for example.

Here is a picture of the rear window relay. It is mounted to the drivers side firewall. If we bypass it, we can get the rear window to function at the switch. I think its bad.
    Part number is:
    C5AZ 14677-A
    or
    C8AB 14677-A
It lists from 1965-1971 for power tailgate or power windows

    Here is the schematic.

I will have to search the parts book for the part number.

This might help. There's a bunch of relays with the same number (14677-A) from other years.

I'd email the guy, because he might have a Hollander Interchange manual.

Check out the 14000-14999 PDF file:

Not sure about this one, but lots of NOS Ford circuit parts:

Worth an email (Ford NOS parts):

These guys make relays and window lift motors and brackets:

    Definitely worth a visit:

Other than an aftermarket unit (Bosch?), I'd suggest you check out a relay for a Convertible top or a rear glass de-icer relay.

    same window problem

I have a 68 Country Squire wagon and my window has stopped working properly. It will work once every few weeks. My relay is bad too. In fact, the person whom I bought this wagon from , connected a 30 amp 12v relay to by pass the old window relay. my problem now might be different than yours, dunno. But you can try adding a this relay to the window relay to see if it works for you. were you ever able to find a replacement relay?

The one on my 65 was bad when I got it and found a NOS relay on ebay which did not last long so its bypassed for now,if you operate it from the switch at the tailgate is does not use the relay so I wonder why its even put on in the first place.

I just wired mine for 4 power windows and 4 power door locks from a 1981 Fairmont Squire at the local junkyard. 2 of the 4 relays were toast. Ford mounts the starter relay on the inside front fender (light gauge steel, sheet metal screws - a rust magnet), to which it attaches an 'Options' relay (20 Amps.), then a Window Safety relay under the steering column. Those are OK. Then the Unloack/Lock relays on the same fender wall (both were toast). Those used to be under the passenger kick panel, where draining rain water gets in, if the windshield sealant leaks.

The old tin-can box relays were reliable, as long as the body didn't rust, because they ran the ground side to the body. The newer plastic ones overcame that, but rust inside thanks to condensation, under the hood (hot, then humid, then hot, etc.)

Over the length of the body, you lose AMPS to the tailgate, and after 40-odd years, the grounds aren't as effective either, so the relay to the tailgate helps keep it running until the warranty wears out. :biglaugh: After that, the idea is to sell you relays, until you clean up the grounds or trade it in for another 'relay race'. :biglaugh:

Not to resurrect a thread from the dead, but I had my relay go out to and was wondering other than eBay, any other options?

I will continue to search....thanks in advanced for advice.

When I got my 65 C/S the relay was bad so I found a NOS relay on ebay but it did not last very long so I ended up bypassing it.

Have you had any problems by passing that relay? I assume you just "jumped" the wires?

No problems and was that way most of the time I owned it,there is probably a way to wire up a newer style relay to it but never go around to it. I think the problem with that system is the relay is activated when the key is on and should be only when the switch is moved.
