I am looking for help. If I get my hands on an NOS RH remote mirror, I won't have a template nor any instructions for installation. This car was a DSO with unusual options, but really presents as a stripper, so no right side mirror, no holes drilled, no clue as to how the factory or dealer routed the cable, and no clue as to the size of the drilled holes. With a car this size, not having a mirror over there is terrifying!

    Thanx in advance, Slidemanic

When I added a passenger side mirror to my '69 Cougar, I just eye-balled the location, using the mirror as a template for where to drill the mounting holes. You'll also need inserts that will go into the door. I forget the exact name used for them. They're threaded for the screws to go into.

As far as routing the cable, etc, I'm not sure. You'll have to do some research, look at pics, etc to determine where the remote controller is located. I'm assuming it goes somewhere in the dash.

Use the driver's door, as it's a 'mirror image' (pardon the pun) to the RH door. Make a mark on the doors in the same place, and lay a piece of masking tape lengthwise with one end at the mark on the LH door. Carefully draw where the holes are onto the tape (without breaking through), then carefully peel it up and lay it down in the same position using the reference mark on the RH door. Give each circle a center punch and drill.

    RH Mirror

Well, yeah, I can "mirror image" the mirror onto the door and drill so it is factory correct up to that point, but there will be the cable and its toggle just hanging down inside the door. Unlike so many cars today, there are no holes, grommets, wires or anything from the door to the base of the A pillar. I can guess and drill three holes to get to the underdash, but I'd really rather have a photo or an instruction sheet (I'm sure Ford printed one, but unlikely that one was kept). Also, this is a low mileage, very presentable car, so I don't want to do a hack job. Does anyone have one of these cars? Anyway, thanks for the responses.

The mirror that I added to my Cougar also had the cable and toggle. Instead of trying to route the cable, and locate the toggle, I coiled up the cable and tie-wrapped it up out of the way inside the door. And just had a manual (non-remote) mirror.

    Manual?

Yeah, but then how did you set it so you could see? At work not so long ago, I had an '06 Ford E-350 with a tired right side mirror that would not stay put, even with Gorilla tape. I don't want my precious '73 Ford wagon beauty to be like this! Anyway,I did actually order the part (at great expense, they are not common!) and I can go so far as you suggest, but I really would like to see some door jamb pictures to see where the cable ran. It is funny, because in 1985, I had a a1977 full-house LTD Country Squire, but I do not have door jamb pix of it. Anyway, the routing for the radio antenna cable is through the plenum where the wipers are...I don't suppose I am going through there, but I suppose weirder things have happened. There was one pic online (Hooniverse) that shows most of the "A" RH pillar on a '78 Squire w/no holes visible, but I cannot see the whole deal, so I can't rely on that. (I know where the cable doesn't go). Thanx for the replies, please keep 'em coming!

I own a 1973 Country Sedan with the cable operated remote right hand mirror, give me a day or two and I'll snap some pictures of it, and where the toggle is located on the dash for you. The mirror is small, and it really doesn't help that much, you'll still find your self turning your head alot...

What color is your Country Sedan?

The cable and head are routed through the rubber watershield into the A-pillar area, then routed out to behind the bottom of the dash before it gets to the hole for the head. They are all run the same way, because I've had to replace a few in wagons and one in my Ranchero GT (which it has the GT mirrors).

My '76 Montego wagon has a manual passenger side mirror. You just adjust it by hand. If it ever needs re-adjusting, I just roll the window down, and have my wife adjust it while I check it. Or if I'm by myself, I'll re-adjust til I get it right. It should maintain its position, as long as the insides of the mirror are not loose.

Ok,good answers. I am not so worried about the place for the toggle, though I would like to see a pic of that too.
In looking at the watershield at the beltline of the front of the door, I thought it might go through there. Between there and the A-pillar with the door open, that is the pic I want to see, and does the cable go through the A-pillar or up onto the cowl where the radio antenna cable goes?
This Galaxie 500 Country Sedan is finished in Gold Glow paint with the Ginger color 6-Passenger bench seat interior. It was delivered with an AM radio, Air Conditioning, Trac-Lok 2.75 Axle, Auto Load Adjust, All tint, Body side molding, and the 400 CID V-8. The only power items are the brakes and steering, and the tailgate glass, but no rear defog. The only thing it desperately needs are exhaust manifold gaskets, and maybe a Left side manifold, which everyone says doesn't exist, or that a 1975 and up manifold isn't the same. I think they are all the same, but I'll have to bet $ on that!
I have ordered the NOS mirror/cable/toggle assembly and it should be here Tuesday.

I took some pictures today, of my remote right mirror.
The hole is about halfway down the A-Pillar between the door hinges.
You may need to remove the door to get in there and drill, the right front fender may need to be removed also. The toggle switch in on the panel below the speedometer. I hope this helps some.

Thanks a million,Hipster! That's starting to look do-able. Today I made the template and stuck the tape on the Pass. side door. Ready to go.
