Hey guys, I’m in the hunt for some new coil springs. I would like the wagon to be about two inches lower in the front; I like the aggressive raked look! I’m not opposed to cutting the original coils, but I figured after 40 + years or wear and tear I would get new coil springs, shocks, and also a front end rebuild kit. I'm not finding much on the internet that is "compatible" with my car, so any info is appreciated.
You can have new springs made. Eaton Spring "springs" to mind...all they need is the weight particulars on your car. However, I don't know if they can accommodate a 2" drop in ride height, so you'd have to contact them and discuss it with them.
You can check with Rockauto which springs you currently have, then search with the Moog catalogue the same spring type but 2" lower install height, that's how I did it.
I was going to suggest that you look for the front springs from a 77-79 Ford Thunderbird. They sat just a bit lower than the other mid-sized, and related full sized Panther, cars, and the front end is mostly a bolt on interchange with what you have. In fact, one of the easiest ways to add front disc brakes to your 68 is to use the front brakes from that same Thunderbird.
You can get lowering springs from Eaton. All you have to do is provide them with your year/model of vehicle, tell them you want a 2" drop, and they'll figure out the rest. 2" is the most drop they offer. Price is about $200 shipped for the pair. I ordered 2" drop springs for my 76 Montego from them. HOWEVER, they clarified that this is 2" from factory height, not current height. After over 40 years of wear, etc, the springs have settled. The actual drop from current height that I got was 1 1/4". One other thing, 2" can be a fairly dramatic drop on the front, depending on how high your front end currently is compared to the rear. By dropping my front 1 1/4", and taking into account the length of our wagons, I struggle to see cars in my inside rear view mirror, that are directly behind me, due to the rake. If they're riding my bumper, I can't see them. I also bought rear springs, which I plan to install this winter.
