Does anyone have a source for the ribbed linoleum material that covers the cargo area sections of a '57 Ford wagon?

    covering the cargo area.

Not sure where to get linoleum for inside cars(had no idea they'd done that, but it doesn't sound like too bad an idea) I do have a cautionary tale, though.I put a carpet, with a non-skid rubber bottom on it,in the back of my 77 Dodge Aspen-wagon,and ended up with horrendous rust patches:49:.The previous owner of my 86 Colony Park found an area rug for covering the cargo area, that doesn't have any lining of any kind on the bottom. With beter breathabilty comes no rust;)...When you find what you're looking for, spread the word.:)

    oh them carpets

Forget from where;),but we'd gotten one of those Mobil carpets with the red pegasus on it.It had one of those bumpy non-skid rubber bottoms. It fit right into the cargo area of our Dodge,so we put it in there. One day,we needed the spare tire out and :49: rust patches!!! It HAD been raining a while before then and apparently the long side windows were leaky(a problem we're having with our Colony Park too) If you're not leaky,it might not be a problem. But there is that condensation stuff,to worry about too. Our Colony Park's previous owner managed to find a small carpet to match the interiour. It fits the spot perfectly and when wet, dries out fairly quick. So far,no rust problems.:whew: But,if we get something stinky on it:oops:,it's difficult to get the stink out.

JimRob is looking for the factory insets that fit into the silver frames that are in the back of many wagons. It's not really linoleom...it's some kind of heavy vinyl or something that has recessed lines embossed in it. The place to find these things would be a restoration site for older Fords.

    Hi jimrob,

I agree with 16conv that SMS is a good source. They provided the
pleather for my seats in my '59 Buick wagon and quoted on the material
for the deck area (which they would make to order) which I am planning to order shortly. The seat material was very nice. The deck material in my wagon was referred to as "vinoleum" in the body parts manual. It had a black base/red top layer which was ribbed in 1/2 inch grooves. I did a search on vinoleum and found a company in India that still uses the trademark. I did not seem that they had any materials available that would be appropriate for antique cars. Good luck!

    Linoleum.

    Wow.
If you are still subscribed here,. I can help. PM me. Reference thie thread by cutting and pasting the link (sio I know which thread it's about.).

And no, I don't mean rubber matting from Lowe's or carpet with logos on it. Or "I don't know, but try this house flooring company" input.

    Vinoleum for Wagon Cargo Areas

I got a material from SMS that looked somewhat like the original material for my '59 Buick. It appeared to be made by using two sheets of vinyl upolstery material dielectrically bonded together with 0.5 " grooves. They matched the color of the upholstery well (since that is where I bought the pleather).

Since the layers were not bonded between the grooves, the top layer tended to flip up around the edges of the cut panels and had to be glued which was difficult and time consuming.

The other issue was that although I had laid the panels out using with a CAD program
and ordered extra material, SMS sent the material in TWO PIECES! I needed to splice one of the panels (the least obvious) to finish the job without ordering additional material.

The metal deck panels have been painted and the deck material has been bonded to them. I am waiting until I can finish the bodywork before I can reinstall the interior.

Best wishes to everyone restoring/refurbishing their wagons!

    Jim

This may not be interior linoelum, but it should point you to something useful::D

    http://www.auto-interior.com/moldedvinyl.htm

This site's GM PDF catalogs are huge (55-56-57 Chevy is almost 18 megs), but they deal in floor panels and maybe the old style molded rubber flooring:
    http://www.luttyschevy.com/pages/catalogs.html

Then there's this Police/service vehicle site that carries vinyl/rubber floors as well. Just not kitchen linoleum though. :D They might be able to suggest whoelse has what you're looking for.

Lastly, just to keep things lively about interior vinyl alternatives, one of the classic members about a year ago, suggested that the black vinyl hallway runners (sold by the yard in different widths and textures at most hardware, flooring and building supply stores ), also came close to the original material.

    cargo lino

I had the same problem and ended up finding the vinyl version at Ciadella Interiors pete@ciadellainteriors.com Very nice people. It came in a big roll and the trick seems to be to lay it in the sun for a while: flattened right out. I used heavy duty 3M adhesive. Hope this helps. Cheers. Michael.
