I never forgot about the site. I got the happy birthday emails and would peek in from time to time. Well, time has come and gone and so have the toys. I've been thru a bunch and my wife has been patient to say the least. Now she has a 71 VW westfalia camper van but has finally come to realize that the VW scene is not what we are used to. I've never in my life have had such a hard time getting any to work on something. Even the VW shops around here are flakes. Her plan is to sell the VW and get into a American made wagon. I told her before she bought the VW that it would be a challenge and it has not let me down. Everything you do on this thing either is a challenge getting parts, the parts you get are wrong, parts that are wrong you are told you have to "modify" or you just have to make something up. So, we are going to haul the bus down to Daytona Beach for the Rod Run and cruise it with a for sale sign and see what happens. So, I'll be visiting more often checking out the for sale threads. Keep a eye out. Thanks.

We've just been sitting here all alone waiting for your return. Have fun at Turkey Rod Run and hopefully you can sell the VW to some hippy over there.
Our last chance to go to Turkey Run and we are gonna miss another year.

    Welcome back!
I would say the South is not exactly your bastion of VW love. Now come to pretty much anywhere on the west coast, and you'll be in a different world. You don't see VW campers around everywhere, but it's rather easy to find shops that specialize in them- usually run by leftover hippies who needed to find a job.

We'll get your wife a wagon. What's she looking for?

I'm told her ebay would be her best bet due to the market out there. I've been going to Daytona for the last 5 years straight and each year I get asked if I want to sell a car that I have there. Last year a group of Germans hounded me for my 69 F100. It is a boxwood green shortbed half ton but it had a 300 straight six, four speed in the floor with a granny gear, really low gear in the rear and two piece driveshaft like a three quarter ton. Anyway, they pulled out a bunch of money and it is now in Germany. I'm thinking either she'll sell it or get a good idea what it is worth.

Anyway, I think a A-body would be good for her. The B-body cars are just to big not just for her but our garage. We have a Excursion and it won't fit in the garage so I'm sure a Impala, Bonneville or Olds Cruiser would be to big. She wants old as well. I'm thinking sixties early seventies. Once she gets the VW sold we'll have a idea of price range we'll be in. Thanks.

Measure your garage, then go on-line and look up the specifications of various wagons your interested in. Give yourself some maneuvering room and go from there. I did that and found out I didn't have enough room for a big 70's Chrysler Town & Country, but I did have enough room (just barely) for a 80's GM box wagon.

I wouldn't let the size of my garage stop me from buying the car of my dreams. That's what they make sledge hammers and lumber for.:rofl2:

We are actually in the process of adding onto our garage so Fannie will fit better.

I know for a fact I have 19ft from wall to the door. I barely fit the 1965 Catalina 2 door hardtop in there when I had it. We are going to haul it down to Daytona so we'll see what happens. I'm thinking she'll get feet about letting it go after spending time with it down there until she wants to have it worked on and that will all come around again.
