Looking forward to your forum. I have a 1972 gran Torino station wagon that I have for about 16 years. The Cancer is starting to get the best of her and I am looking at doing a full restoration. I have a have always had 4x4 and miss the 4 wheel drive advantage. I am considering putting my Torino on a 4x4 frame. My question is... do you happen to know what frame might easily fit under this body. Any help or advive would be greatly appreciated. Boe
Welcome! Did a little checking on the frame swap thing. Your Gran Torino wagon has a 118" wheelbase. The 1997 - 2002 (?) regular cab, shortbed full size Ford P/U has a 119.9" wheelbase, so it's pretty close.
Thank you for the info... I never really thought of using a newer frame though. I guess because I assumed it would take way more modifying. Do you happen to know if they used the same frame in 72, for other vehicles? Like f 150 truck... Ect? I appreciate your time and wisdom. Thank you, boe
One source on the interweb states the mid 70's version of the same truck above (reg cab, short bed) had a wheelbase of 117", so again, pretty close.... This would be say from '73 - '96 Also, the mid-size Ranger regular cab, LONG bed from '98 to 2011 has a 117.6" wheel base. Not sure you would want to use the Ranger frame for your application, though. You would have to see how wide the frame rails are apart to see if it would fit better than a full size truck. Marshall
excellent... thank you for your assistance. Your info has put me on the right path. Much appreciate it.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima Boe
Someone had done a '72ish Ranchero on a 4x4 frame. The Ranchero and Torino wagon share the same frame/chassis. Try a Google search, maybe you can find the guy that did the Ranchero conversion, and get some details from him.
