I noticed hotrodprimer's post and the cool trophy he had won with his wagon. I thought it would be neat to have a thread where people could post pictures of any cool trophies that they had won with their wagons. I know we all love our wagons and it has nothing to do with winning trophies. None the less it is a nice 'pat on the back' when your wagon wins one! SO I went to my photo files to find the cool trophy we had won and realized that we had won two interesting trophies with our 64 Acadian Beaumont Wagon: so here is the wagon and the trophies! The Pontiac Chief was won at a Pontiac only show in Orlando FL and the piston was won at a show in Punta Gorda FL.
Thanks for inviting me to post on this thread.. I have been involved in the car hobby most of my life and won a few dust catchers over the years but the all pale in comparison to the attention we have received with the wagon... It probably has something to do with it's long history since new with my wife's family or the fact that it took me 9 long years to bring it back from the grave. The wagon is like a member of the family and I am actually surprised at how well it has been received..the car has been a labor of love and the accolades from my peers are very much appreciated. At Pigeon Forge,Tennessee in 2013 the wagon was the recipient of the Shelby V8 award. In the middle of August 2014 we drove the wagon to Novi,Michigan and won the Best of Show for the wagon class. And a few weeks later at a local show we were fortunate to win the Best Ford...imagine that? a wagon winning best Ford. HRP
Thank you for posting hotrodprimer. If anyone has a good half hour or more to spare, click on hotrodprimers name and then on his home page. It will take you to the most extensive restoration photo collection I have ever seen. Must have taken countless hours as all 300+ photos have captions. I really enjoyed viewing the pictures but I must admit I did start to skip a head a bit . You have built an amazing 54, congratulations!
Thank you for the kind words,it only took 9 years and a month almost to the day to bring the wagon back. HRP
This is a cool one we won with our 65 Mailbu wagon, its all real car parts, cut & welded together, painted highlights and clear coated. you can see by the bar stool it is fairly big too. I guess I should have dusted it......
Sorry I don't have pictures.....but it happened. Our first surprise was Fathers Day way back in around 1991 when our 55 Chevy wagon was finally finished and ready to drive. First trip ever. We took it 20 miles to a Fathers Day car show in central Illinois and I entered "special interest vehicles". I knew I didn't have a chance against all of the red 57 Chevy convertibles and hardtops. I stilll never expected to get even third because there were may 60's convertibles, kit cars, racers, etc. in that class. Some never driven. We had to leave because our family was having a Fathers Day cookout back at home. As they started calling from 3rd. forward in my class we packed up and jumped in the wagon. I heard 2nd called and knew we may as well leave. We were shocked when we won first in class. I think our biggest honor was at Daytona at a large Hardee's cruise in during Turkey Rod Run. We won a large 911 trophy for peoples choice. Probably because it is red and white and I had magnetic flags on the sides. After that we've won so many trophys they ended up buried in the garage and on our front porch. I stopped entering in shows because I never intended to have a trophy wagon. And truthfully it never was. I suppose because it was different we won. No one in their right mind fixed up an old station wagon in the 90's.
I know what you mean. We don't put our hearts and souls into our vehicles to win trophies but when you are somewhat of a perfectionist in the restoration and/or modifications it will get noticed. We have been car nuts forever and have so many trophies we only really get excited about the possibility of winning one when they are cool ones (so many of them look like bowling trophies.....)
