Hey all, I started this wagon project just over a year ago with a buddy as our side line wagon build, meaning that we chipped away on it when we weren't hammering on our own wagons. Progress was a bit slow but we had a vision so it eventually came together. We found this wagon in a field in Krestova B.C. and it had been sitting since 1989. It had no motor, trans or front seat and a lot of chrome and bumpers were removed but still there. The body is in surprisingly good shape (besides the floors) and all the glass was good. We had a really decrepit 1965 Mustang in our inventory with a 289 and four speed top loader, so that was slated for our little Comet. Floors were repaired, Mustang seats were stitched up to match the Comet interior and V-8 mounts were fabbed. The 289 didn't last too long before it developed a good knock so out it came. We then found a semi-retired HI-Po 302 race motor that seemed to fit the bill. Brakes and exhaust were also dealt with of course as well as other tid bits to make it a descent driver and last Friday I put plates on it and drove probably 1000km on a road trip with friends and all is well surprisingly. The clutch is frighteningly stiff but I got used to it pretty quick. The 302 makes 75# of oil pressure all day long and the aluminum rad that we installed keeps temps under 180*F no matter how big the pass and we did conquer some passes.
Just thought I'd share. And in case you didn't know, it's a '62 Comet Custom two door wagon. I'm still working out the finer details but it's a damn fine driver so far.

Nice rescue of a neat wagon. Looks like a ton of fun for mostly sweat equity and ingenuity.

And a wagonload of parts. Do you plan to make the Comet a fire-breathing grocery-getter?

I plan on driving it pretty much as-is for now while I fix all the little things like weatherstripping and one of the tail gate glass wheels is off of the regulator, so that's a pain. I'm also not sure what to think of the vacuum powered wipers. Oh Ford.

It is loosely for sale locally through word of mouth but I'm not officially listing it yet since there is quite a bit more fun to be had in it.

Comet looks great, but I love the Belvedere. Great picture with the wagons and canoes.

I think you may be a bit bis Jim. The Belvedere is a beautiful ride as well and fresh as ever in a fresh coat of medium blue poly. We got tons of looks rolling down the highway on our vintage camping escapade.

Nice story and great little wagon. You guys sure add some strange looking wind deflectors up there.

    That's no wind deflector, it's a pompadour.

Oh the Rev knows, he's just brooding.
