Hi y'all Like many of us, I grew up riding in the back of an old wagon. It was an LTD Wagon that sat about 13 people. We went all over the country in that thing pulling a 24 foot camper trailer. Fast forward 30 years and here I am recently retired and wanted to take some road trips with my lovely wife. We were looking for a nice comfortable car that we can spend some miles in. I was looking at... everything. I wasn't really limiting my options. Hell, if I found a nice VW Bus I would have gotten it. But then it happened. Across Craigslist came the wagon. The Beast. Almost exactly like the car we used growing up. The one I learned to parallel park in. The one I took my driving test in. Only difference is this one is blue, a little newer, with a 5.0 and not the 460 my fathers had. I had to have it. I passed up Mercedes, Jags, VW's ... everything. Let me give you a little more of the wagons history. I bought it from a 90 year old man. A WWII Army veteran and Pilot. He took METICULOUS notes and details and care with this car. He bought it brand new, for cash, in 1988 from a now gone local car dealer. I've still got the original title envelop with the date stamp on it - Sep 28'88. He just couldn't drive it anymore and wanted to make sure it went to a "good home who would take care of her" He also handed me his memo book he kept - detailed every oil change, tire rotation, belt change, light bulb replacement... everything ... who, where, and mileage. The car has about 161,000 miles on it, but if I told you it was 61,000 you'd believe me. Anyway here it is in all it's glory. We're going to be heading up the east coast this fall, maybe over to the west coast next spring. There's enough room for all our travel crap and to have some adult alone sexy time if the mood hits.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm just outside Athens, Ga - small little place called Loganville. I was looking at a 73 Torino wagon near newnan, but this one popped up on my radar and I couldn't pass it up.
from the South Eastern USA. Great looking wagon. Enjoy your new old wagon and all of your future road trips. Don't forget the pictures of all those adult alone sexy times when the mood hits. At our age a SmartCar would be plenty.
I call SCORE! [instert dancing bananas]. Great choice and lovely wagon. No doubt just a touch shorter than the old LTD but still a wonderful example of our favorite automotive form. mike
Welcome! Excellent story and excellent find!!!! May it bring you many miles of happiness on the road! (And off)
Welcome to the SWF, Skink! Great story on the Country Squire. She looks to be practically brand-new. Finding an old vehicle with all the documentation, and proving how it was maintained is worth a nice bump in the purchase price. I'll bet you paid him what he was asking! If you haven't already, you're going to be getting a lot of comments like, "I haven't seen one of those in years", or "We had a wagon just like that!". I get stopped at least once a week. Marshall
Thanks for the warm welcome, fellas. I've gotten stopped DAILY since I started driving it on the regular. My wife has an 07 GT Mustang that has less than 40k miles on it - it's practically brand new and we get stopped less in that than the Family Truckster. I'm ecstatic about it and my wife is giddy and I'm glad I found some folks that share our enthusiasm.
Welcome! Awesome looking wagon. Love that color. I live up in Canton, just a little north and east of you.
