Spring is here and the weekly cruise ins have started up. This afternoon at the cruise in at Manassas, a few members of the local Oldsmobile club showed up with their cars including a 69 Cutlass flat roof wagon and a 62 F-85 wagon (the owner is a member here and is waiting for delivery of a 64 Vista Cruiser survivor he just bought from a seller in Nevada). But these weren't the only wagons there this evening. Heres a link to the pictures I took at the cruise in (most of the pics in this album are from tonight, but a few are from last Saturday). https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741871.100001111775214&type=1&l=306ad8eaf0 The wagon I liked the most tonight was a 68 Mercury Colony Park with the side facing seats in the way back, wood grain side trim, luggage rack, and vinyl roof.
Thanks for sharing your pictures, love that Mercury wagon and the Adam 12 cruiser :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Joe, the owner, is a member here, and pictures of this wagon have been posted before. He has two of these 62 F-85 wagons. This one is his daily driver, but will probably share its daily driving duties with Joe's latest addition, a 64 Vista Cruiser, when the new addition arrives from Nevada.
Jim, Thanks for putting those up. Yes, that's my 62 F-85. I bought that one out of the NV desert in 2010. It had been sitting for 30 years. Last year I scored another that had been stored inside in San Jose since 1975 (I'd been chasing that car for about a year and a half). And I just stumbled over the 64 Vista in Reno. That car has power windows, tilt, cruise, and air. It should be on a truck headed east by Tues or Wed next week.
The Colony Park in Jim's first post is owned by Vern Parker, former automotive editor of the Washington Times newspaper. I should also point out that the gold 69 Cutlass flattop wagon in Jim's photos is a factory four speed car. The owner is also a member of our Olds club. No, the under-bumper air induction from a W-30 was NOT factory-installed.
Joe, thanks for clueing me in on the Colony Park. I've met Vern Parker before. He comes to the Manassas cruise in often to find cars for his feature articles (he did one on my 68 Barracuda once). I didn't know he had the Mercury, and it left before I saw who brought it. Thanks for posting pics of your other 62 F-85 and the 64 Vista. I'm looking forward to seeing both some time soon. Heres a link to Vern Parker's "Out of the Past" column where he tells the story about a different car in each article. http://www.vernparker.com/
Yeah, that car is beautiful. It has about 46,000 miles on it. Vern got it a few years ago with something like 38,000 miles at the time. The previous owners had bought it new, used it for a few years, then the husband had a stroke. The car was parked in the garage waiting for him to get better. Sadly, he never did and when the wife moved to assisted living, there was this station wagon still sitting in the garage. Vern was turned on to it by another member of our Olds club.
My first car, back in 1981, was a 68 Colony Park. Mercury Iceberg Blue inside and out. Backwards facing back-back seat. 325 bhp 4V 390. Lost it to a 71 Chrysler Newport drifting out of traffic at 55+ mph. More than any other, it is the car I wish I still had. Edging my 86 Colony Park out as the best car I've ever had.
Today, there was another good turnout of cars at the Manassas cruise in. I added 130 photos to the album for those who may be interested. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741871.100001111775214&type=1&l=306ad8eaf0 Not nearly as many wagons this week. The most interesting long roof that did show up was a 1966 Chevy II sedan delivery (made from a 4 door wagon with the doors from a 2 door post sedan since Chevy never made a 2 door Chevy II wagon nor a Chevy II sedan delivery).
