I have a '87 olds custom cruiser 9 pass. wagon for about 2 years now. I searched ebay for factory svc manuals awhile ago and bought volume 1 & 2 of the 1987 Oldsmobile chassis svc manual. They are designated on the cover as being for Firenza, Calais, cutlass ciera, delta 88 & ninety-eight. Volume 2 is mostly electrical diagrams and appears to cover all of the models listed. Volume 1 has no sections or any references to the full size cars (my wagon or the 88 & 98 models). Is there another manual that I am not aware of that covers chassis svc for my wagon? What am I missing? John
These are what Helm has listed. http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result....87&Category=&Keyword=&Module=&selected_media=
factory service manuals Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, they have nothing for the full size (9 pass) wagon. John
factory svc manuals Thank you again Kevin. I believe the reference is to the cutlass station wagon and not the full size. John
Researching this to help you out. The 1987 Custom Cruiser was based on the GM B body which was known as the Cutlass. The TSM you want is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-OLDSMO...anuals_Literature&hash=item4171b3ad79&vxp=mtr
From Kevin's link.... http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?Make=OLD&Model=CUST&Year=1987&Category=&class%5F2=OLD&mk=Oldsmobile&yr=1987&md=Custom+Cruiser&dt=&module=&from=result&Style=helm&Sku=87OLDSBG&itemtype=B Quote.... Description: Models Covered- Custom Cruiser/Cutl Supreme/Cutl SALON/442
What you are missing is that Olds had separate CSMs for the FWD and RWD cars. The 88 and 98 were both FWD by 1987. That manual does not cover the Custom Cruiser or Cutlass Supreme. You need this manual. Note that it specifically says "Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Salon, Custom Cruiser". There are several currently available on ebay:
amcguy: GM's alphabet soup platform designations can cause a lot of confusion. You are correct that the Custom Cruiser is a "B" body, but that is NOT the Cutlass platform. The Cutlass FWD platform was the "A" body platform in the 87 model year. The Cutlass RWD platform was the "G" body platform. The Delta 88 was FWD in 1987, on the "H" platform The Ninety-Eight was also FWD, built on the "C" platform, which was a longer version of the "H" platform. The Custom Cruiser is a RWD "B" body platform. That platform was shared with the Pontiac, Buick and Chevrolet full-size wagons. The only 1987 Service Manual that shows "Custom Cruiser" on the cover is the one reference in joe_padavano's post; that is the one you need.
The confusion comes from the fact that in the 1980s, Olds called pretty much everything a "Cutlass". Starting in 1985 there was the N-body FWD Cutlass Calais (not to be confused with the RWD G-body Cutlass Calais sold in the first half of the 1980s), the FWD A-body Cutlass Ciera, and the RWD G-body Cutlass Supreme. Adding to the confusion, in the first half of the 1980s, Olds sold the RWD G-body Cutlass Cruiser and the FWD A-body Cutlass Ciera Cruiser. The RWD version was dropped by about 1984, and the FWD version took the name Cutlass Cruiser, despite still being based on the A-body Ciera platform. (To make it even worse, Olds sold the RWD G-body Cutlass Supreme and the FWD W-body Cutlass Supreme at the same time in the 1988 model year) As I noted, the RWD Custom Cruiser and Cutlass Supreme got a dedicated CSM for the 1987 model year.
factory svc manuals Many thanks for helping me with this. I did clean my glasses while researching this, but not enough to understand it. John
