Greetings from Buffalo, New York! This is my first post. I am the owner of a 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Estate wagon "woody", purchased last summer from a dry western state. I am the second owner. The car is a true survivor with good original white paint and factory "wood". The interior is also original with excellant red vinyl and red rugs. The car has the third seat, a/c, cruise, power brakes and steering, AM/FM and crank windows. The red headliner is a bit "tired" and I plan on replacing. The interior and exterior is totally complete with nothing missing. I have been a wagon lover ever since my father had his 1959 Ford Country Squire. I am on the hunt for a stock passenger-side outside rectangular chrome mirror, which the car never had ( an option for 1977 Chevy wagons? ) Any leads to locate same would be appreciated! Love this forum with the helpful posts.
Welcome!! Are you sure that thing is from 77? I've seen "survivors" from the 90s that were in worse shape than your car. It sure is beautiful. As for the mirror, I think it was an option, but many of my cars from that general time frame didn't have the passenger mirror. Any reason why you're wanting one? Frankly, most of the time these mirrors are so small they don't do much good, unless the back of the car is so full you can't see out the windows. Just curious is all. Again, welcome, and its good to have you onboard.
I think we had a thread on it in our 'E-Bay, Auctions, Craig's List section - last year: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26066&highlight='77+Chevy+Caprice Welcome to the SWF, and congratulations on your new wagon. The headliners in the GM box wagons are a known issue. Replacing mine was the first thing I did to it.
Welcome to the nuthouse we call Home. Great wagon you have there. There were 2 different right side chrome mirrors available for that wagon. The first, less costly but likely rarer but easier to install, is the non-remote control mirror. The slightly more costly was the remote control mirror. The control for it will mount in one of the blanks on your dash. When you find one, make sure you get the bezel for the control wand.
Welcome aboard, mmassey911! Your car looks wonderful; nice find! Is this the mirror you need? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1977-19...Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e77896a6e&vxp=mtr
JMT, that mirror looks like the whole head swivels, which would make it the passenger side mirror for a car without the driver's side remote control, which was standard on the Caprice. The one he needs, I think, is one of the two where the chrome part is all one, rigid, assembly, and the mirror glass moves within it, the way the remote on the driver's side does. I know that both types were available, because I added one of the non-remote ones to my 78 Buick Electra, but that is LONG gone.
