Hello All, 2 things... 1 - On my 1966 Chrysler Town & Country wagon I need a gas cap, I don't care what it looks like, I just need one that fits, so far I can find one for $50 buck on ebay, YIKES! any help or tips??? 2 - THere is a 1970 Town & Country in pick a part near by in Ontario CA if anyone needs parts. Thanks all!
The reason is that most of the time it is a venting issue. Many coupes or 4 doors have a vent tube in the trunk. The Wagon may not and thats why. What I would do is find one that fits and make sure that it is vented.
Let me vent. I had trouble with my motorhome with 440 Dodge running out of fuel. I drilled a 1/16th inch hole in the two caps and it was fine. Legal? Safe? It worked for me.
That's what great about this site. Commonsense. Neat Tip! I think the locking gas caps vent as well. Just need the depth and diameter - a sedan/hardtop model locking cap? Try the Imperial Club site's Parts links: http://www.imperialclub.com/Part/Fuel/index.htm
Hmmm, That sounds like it might be the fix to my 78 Cordoba... But regarding my wagon, the neck is very tiny for the cap, the part that has the barbs (so to call it) on the cap is about the size of a quarter... I'm thinking I may have to adapt a more common filler neck to this one to get a cap that will fit... Thanks, Hope someone pops out a part number that will work William
I've never seen a gas cap or opening that small. Maybe one of those old soda bottle or themos bottle stoppers that squeeze down to seal. Or like people of Wal-Mart put a rag in it.
Oh, I remember those tiny openings. Weren't they for the different Leaded or Unleaded gas hoses at the pumps? If you can get the inlet diameter at the tank, you should be able to find a different filler neck with the rubber connector. I thought those smaller filler openings were removable inserts. Mustangs and Capris have removable filler tubes, and the neoprene rubber connector, along with other Fox-bodied models (Granada, TBirds, Cougars, Fairmonts, Zephyrs. But I'm sure other big Mopars had them too.
Yes, it sure is an odd one, It is not a removable peice, just a tiny filler, small enough I may actually see if I can get a power steering cap to fit. Thanks!
The tube has to be big enough to fit the larger, leaded gas pump nozzles, or there would have been no way to fill the car! IF you can find one, check out the locking gas cap from a pre-70 Chevy Nova. The caps were vented, as they did not have a vent tube in the trunk. My 69 Acadian (Canadian only Pontiac version of a Nova) would drip out of the cap if the tank was full and I parked on an up hill grade.
