Wish this one wasn't so far away because that is a hard color to find.

    Hope this helps you

The Impala SS and some of the Caprice cars came from the factory with LT1 Corvette Motors in them.. the "P" is the eight digit in the VIN number that describes (Proves) its an LT1 Corvette motor.

These came in the 94, 95, and 96 Impala SS and some Caprice cars from the factory .. same thing with the Buick Roadmasters (same engines) and I believe the same in the Caddy's in that year bracket.. Not a Caddy guy but believe that to be true also.

I have owned one 95 Impala SS, One 95 9C1 Caprice and one 96 Impala SS all came with the LT1 Corvette motors.

OH and if you have the 94 Roadmaster you should have the LT1 engine also

Can you say that the V8 in a '95 (or '94/'96 etc..) Caprice is a 'Corvette engine'? Well, I guess you can, but that's not completely accurate. It's the same basic engine, but there are differences.
    - The HP on the Caprice is 260 @ 4800rpm.
    - The HP on a '95 Corvette is 281 @ 5200rpm. I'm sure there's other differences as well, but I can't find a specification sheet on the Caprice LT1.

Same engines as Corvette but different gearing in the rear.. programming in the computers...Impala's and Caprices are heavy as heck and your not going to out run a Corvette with a Impala SS or 9C1 Caprice.

But calling a spade a spade they are Corvette engines.. LT1 engine.. the best of the best for those years and would never own anything else in an engine in those SLEDS (Caprice/Impala SS)...lol

I knew about the LT1 in the caprices, roadmasters and impalas being similar to the engines used in the corvette, but not identical. I guess I was just wondering if he was saying the vin no. he had identified his engine as an "actual" corvette engine.

The more I look at this one though, the better it looks.

Not sure, but I took his ad as saying the "P" in the VIN number meant LT1 Corvette motor. and he is correct.. it is just that, a corvette motor.. trust me I've been around these cars for years. horsepower might be a little lower but they were built here in Arlington, TX. and were detuned at the factory.

I've owned plenty of Corvettes and two of the LT1 Impala SS's and one 9C1 Caprice. Been messing with these cars for many years. Just a program tune and a couple of small things changed would get the HP to the Corvette's of that era or even more HP. I changed a few things and with a tune on my 96SS had over 300 HP without touching the inside of the motor. But you lose gas mileage also with more Horse Power and slapping 373 gears under these big cars.

Anyways I would go check it out if its in your neck of the woods.

    Good luck!

The horsepower may be down, but I understood that it was retuned for more torque due to the weight of the cars.

The B-Bodies (and D-Bodies) got cast iron cylinder heads whereas the F-Body and the Corvette got the aluminum cylinder heads. The passenger car version also had a different cam. I've heard, but cannot confirm that the passenger car version got 2 bolt main blocks while the Corvette got 4 bolt main blocks. I'm not sure what the F-Bodies got. It is an LT1 engine, but it is not the same as the Corvette LT1. The Corvette engine was rated at 300hp throughout its life while the passenger car version was 260hp. I really wish they had just used a different engine code rather than using the same one across three different platforms. It always annoys me when I see those ads and they reference the "Corvette engine". Strangely I don't see too many LT1 Corvette ads that mention the "Roadmaster engine" in them.
