Thought I'd make an intro. I'm a fan of old mustangs, torinos and cougars but like all the old iron from the 60s and 70s. Currently I drive a Volvo V70 as my daily driver/work traveler car. I have a few old mustangs I'm fixing up with my boys. Namely 3 Mach 1s from 71 & 72 and a 65 mustang convertible that my parents bought new before I was born. I'd like to get an early 70s Gran Torino wagon or a Country Squire and ditch the V70. My wife hates the idea of another old car at the house and thinks the old wagons are ugly. She does like the convenience of the V70 when she drives it. We have 5 kids from 1.5 years to 13 years old. We have an Excursion for family duty. That's kind of like a super sized wagon right? Anyway, I'll mainly be a lurker unless I get a more fitting old wagon to talk about instead of the V70. The V70 is a comfortable car though for my purposes I like the old stuff much, much better though. Don
Welcome aboard! Have you ever attended the Cruisin' the Coast event? I guessed due to your address that you may have attended - one of our forum members, 1tireman, is there now. Good luck on your wagon search - let us know if we can help - we love spending other people's money
Don. Take your family down to the coast and show your wife all the nice cars and station wagons. Hurry!
Thanks for the welcomes. I help run a forum for 71-73 mustangs since those are my favorites but I'd sure like to have a classic wagon for a daily driver despite the wife's cringing at that idea. She's totally on board with the old mustangs being a mustang girl herself. No love for the wagons though. Pics below are what I'd like to see in my driveway.
I hear ya! It would be like driving to work on my sofa and having tail gunner seats for a couple of the kids.
I've seen pics of those but... Give me a Gran Torino wagon or Country Squire - now that would be the ticket!
Welcome from another Ford nut. I've had a 69 Cougar vert, several Mustangs, several Fairlanes, and a 71 Torino GT. My wagon is a '76 Mercury Montego MX Villager, the Torino's cousin. It seems like the wagon that you pictured has been discussed here before. Good luck with getting your wife on board. Mine loves our wagon. And the kids (even the 15 year olds) have a blast cruising in the back rear-facing seat.
Price question. What would a 72 Gran Torino Wagon go for that's in decent shape (not a rust bucket)? Would there be a price difference for a similar year Country Squire? What would be the average price for them? Thanks!
Just recently there have been some nice wagons like you are looking for listed with photos. Check the SEARCH function and maybe others will also help out.
Here's the thread on the one that you pictured. Priced at $4200, it's a great deal, IMO. It's still listed on Craigslist. Price started out at $4800. Go offer them $3500!! http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27047 http://tallahassee.craigslist.org/cto/4063629650.html
If it's close to how it looks the short ride would be worth it. Never find another that nice close. Scoot down I-10 and grab it.
I saw the CL ad while poking around looking at that era of cars that for sale. My work had me traveling through there next week and I had contacted the owner via email to stop by. Got word this morning that due to the partial gov shutdown my trip has been postponed. Grrr!
