I had a 1978 F-250, FWD, with the Alaskan package on it. It had the dual side tanks, one 28 gals. and the other 20 gals and a 400 cid engine. It had a one ton driveline and a higher GVW than a regular F-250. I used it as a plow truck. It got 10 mpg regardless of how it was loaded or what it was pulling, except in the mountains where it jumped up to 14 mpg. The thing was a horse. You could lock it in 4wd, put it in low gear, and put the bumper against a tree. When you let the clutch out, all four wheels would spin without killing the engine. You could get out of the truck and walk away and it would just sit there and dig 4 holes in the dirt or gravel.
It's like an extended-cab frame under a regular-cab truck. Neat idea but I bet it has a huge turning radius.
Yea but you should see the HOOD ORNAMANT I really ordered. It would be banned from here. :ban:mg: Tedy----->And here they are, Dolly and Cat discussing the hood ornament option........
Nice find on the old magazine, that's a pretty cool deal. Though the four wheeling camper has me wondering what the wife would do every time she had to rearrange every storage compartment because the husband HAD to climb that giant rock. Also, cat, your remark of the hood ornament reminds me of my father, 'cept he would've said "You keep the truck, I'll take the blonde!". I have a feeling you two would get along quite well!
Nothing wrong with old guys liking blondes. :2_thumbs_up_-_anima Or redheads, Raven haired cuties, or brunettes. Actually at my age bald is beautiful. Don't tell 1tireman we are off topic! Since we're talkin about women he won't even notice!
Don't even get me started on that, my father will nearly run out of the road if a good looking woman goes jogging past. It's hilarious but also somewhat terrifying at the same time to know you could die for little more than the third letter of the alphabet.
funny this popped up....we were just discussing this at the junkyard the other night. didnt ford offer a 9' bed too?
I remember GM (not sure if GMC or Chevy or both) had the "LongHorn" with a 9 foot bed. I usually see a couple every year at crusin' the coast. This Ford was a first for me as I have NEVER seen one. I have seen a lot of the camper specials with the tool compartment in the side the bed but not these. Got some neat info about it here anyway.
Went to our local Wal-Mart today. Right inside the door at the entrance to the eye glass joint a life sized cardboard cut out of you was standing wearing a white lab coat.
My 2 year old niece goes to Wal-Mart and screams "NENNIS, NENNIS" my sister tells me when she see's that cut out. She can't say Dennis yet but my sister said they have to explain to everyone looking at them that she thinks that is her uncle!
We are equal opportunity gossipers. See, we even talked about 1tireman and the Duckie guys. I figured that cut out would be in every Wally World in the Universe. And we have the same first name....NENNIS. Back home I'm known as grandpa Denny with the toppertruck. That's what grandson calls my truck with a topper. I'll admit girls do occasionally come up in our talks.
