77 Vista: I would rethink the C-4. The AOD is at least as easy to get, and no more expensive to rebuild, but gives you overdrive. Since the shift quadrant has the same number of stops, it is a very easy install. For the engine, though, I would also think about post 85 engines, and there was a major re-engineering done, including a switch to a one piece rear seal that actually does manage to seal! The older 2 piece is considered rust control. It also has more power and better fuel economy.

The drive train came out of an 89' Mark VII. It was in a buddies Futura and he decided to go 4.6. So it's EFI and a roller block. I may eventually go with an AOD. But the C4 thats coming with it is the factory spec one.

An 89 Mark VII should have an AOD in it already, not a C-4, so that may well be problem solved. If so, the one thing to be very careful about is that kick down cable. They have a habit of stretching, and that wears the transmissions prematurely. Keep that right, and I have no idea just how far an AOD will go. One I know of is at 1.3 million km (850,000 miles or so) so far and still going strong without a rebuild.

Scratch that. I ended up buying the independent rear suspension out of a 2004 cobra. I just now got home from buying a driveshaft 3 hours away. The driveshaft came out of a 2000 ford explorer Eddie Bauer edition 2wd. The rear flange bolts right up but the spline count on the trans yoke is wrong. FEP is down again so I thought I would share here! I was looking at the nightmare of figuring out wiring yesterday and that, I think, is going to be my biggest hurdle.

    Interesting build.....

Nelz - how will that IRS bolt up to the wagon? Being a wagon, I'd imagine it's not exactly a bolt-in. Also, how will you compensate for the extra weight of the wagon structure?

Actually it almost is a bolt on! The original foxbody chassis was used in several ford lincoln mercury products. The culmination of this chassis' evolution was the 2004 Terminator Cobra Mustang! Some of the foxbody irs conversions I've seen online have the rear sitting just a little bit high! My hope is that this translates to a nice slightly lowered stance on my wagon.
