    Hey there,

Have been looking at old wagons for sometime and still have no idea how to put a "realistic" price on them. I was looking at a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis Wagon - 84,000 km - original owner - zero rust - looks amazing inside and out - is loaded - a/c tow package etc. As far as I can tell it is in great running order - has the big 454? engine. So as hard as it is to judge the unseen --- does $7400.00 seem like a fair price - amazing price - or crazy high price ?

thanks in advance for your opinions

We saw this one earlier here. There is a thread about this very wagon in the section for cars found on Craigslist, etc. It has a couple of minor issues, including the air deflector at the back, but over all, this is one glorious old wagon. If you love the car, nab it. You will be hard pressed to find another close by in that shape, and that colour looks spectacular. Also, if you plan on keeping the car long term, then don't worry about market value. The wagon is worth what YOU are willing to pay for it, regardless of what the market says. There are cars out there that the market says are worthless that I love, and others that the market says are worth thousands that I would not say thank-you for. Personally, if it were in my budget, and particularly if it were close to home, I would not think twice at the price advertised. To take an 'average' one and bring it to that standard would cost thousands, and to get one that good from the U.S. would cost thousands in shipping and customs/brokerage fees.

Kinda hard to use this one as a comparison, if so the blue one isn't even in the ball park when it comes to price....... It doesn't have a scabbed on rack deflector, rear bumper is not Tweeked, and I'm pretty sure the silver one runs:biglaugh:

    As for the blue one................

Myguy, where exactly are you located, Atlantic Canada is kinda a big place? it could help when it comes to getting a wagon that you would nat have to maybe travel a big distance, or are you willing to travel?

    --------UPDATE--------

Well I emailed the owner and asked the questions suggested. Air spoiler, bumper ding etc. Mentioned the forum. Said to be worth $4500 + it would have to be close to mint. I even said i think it appears close to mint. Just got a "thanks" reply and no answers. So I am guessing I upset him by asking questions or maybe he is just not interested in lowering his price. Last we talked on the phone he was down to $6000.00. So unless something changes I am done with this one. The search continues.... Again thanks guys I think you saved me some bucks.

Thanks again. I did get a little too caught up in it all thinking I found the one. Was already picturing posting the pics of the first road trip here. To be fair to him he did not say it would not start. Just that he has not started it in a year. Ya I know still suspicious to say the least. In the end it is just not smart to by anything from someone who will not answer a few questions. I think he was fine until I asked the specific questions re the air spoiler and bumper. Lol. I will keep looking though.
