So after lots of things going both south and not right my Buick Estate Wagon is now on it's way home so to say. The pic is from when my friend Lamar aka Mr Earl/The Buick Man/The Buick Rescue Man is picking it up yesterday in Mobile Alabama. The wagon is now safely at Lamar's place where I will store it for the mean while. Anyways, the main thing is that it's safe now! Lamar will most probably give me a full report on it's condition together with some lovely pictures of it sometime later this week. I owe this to Lamar without him this would not been possible, me getting this Buick. Big Big thanks to him, he is the The Buick Man!! I'm also very happy that he made it safely all the way.. There was potential hazards both at pickup but also towing it, as he put it him self this is a beast to car. Well you can see how it dwarfs the Chevy pickup -- this is a 20' 5000 lbs wagon and it can be very tricky to tow if something goes wrong.. Anyways I just wanted to let you all know... Cheers Dyna
Glad to see that your Buick is in good hands...until it can be in yours. Be sure to tell him, from one Buick guy to another...
Nice car, good to know it all went well and it's safe and sound. That would be a white knuckle experience pulling a trailer with a regular pick-up with that mammoth car on it. He should of put the truck on the trailer and towed that back with the wagon, but I don't see a hitch?
Hehe, it must been -- well that's what hubby says, to be frank I never ever towed anything. I'm kind of glad that the wagon doesn't' have a hitch, that way you know it's not been used for extensive towing... Cheers Dyna
Good to hear the Buick is Lamar's hands now. When are you planning to get the wagon to the UK? From which harbor will it depart? I'm planning my next visit to the USA already; early July to attend at least the BCA meeting in Colorado Springs... I'm quite sure Lamar will be there as well. I hope to purchase a 75 or 76 Electra Limited (or when I can find one... you already guessed... another EW) to make that road trip in style; challenge is to get an insurance and all the paper work done......as a EU citizen it is almost impossible to drive a (non rental) car. Any suggestion??
good to hear from you Dyna...i was starting to wonder if you ever left the garage and very cool that someone over here is helping you with the Yacht
-- na it's more been a real struggle with this, and it's also been other things coming and going. I (we) are starting to drag things together, it's over ten cars than need to come to one spot for efficient packaging. We had and still have our intention to move there but as things go even more south with the world economy we might need to postpone that and instead ship our dreams back here to Europe. (Shipping is a lot cheaper US to EU than EU to US). Yep, it's so nice to have a friend there, I owe Lamar big time.. The cheapest port to ship out from in the US is Savannah GA going to Southampton UK it's just over $1000 (going Rotterdam is nearly $2000) for a 40' container so it's not that expensive. You get three cars and and quite a lot of parts if you stuff things well in a 40'. I have a EW (76 Buick Estate Wagon) in BC, Canada -- it's more of a spare car but fully road worthym and in good mechanical condition, yes it's fully loaded and have all the toys. If you want you can drive that one cross country to Georgia. To get it insured you need a friend that insures it in 21 century, they used to cover the car if you lent it to a friend (that didn't have an insurance her self). There are probably other companies that does this but 21 century actually happens to insure older cars too. You need a good friend since if you smack the car it's his or hers no claims that goes south. Don't worry about tax and registration (you will take out a temp one just for the transport) it's the insurance that is the important one. Dunno if Lamar will be in Colorado Springs it's not exactly close, hence pretty expensive to get there, but I or you can always ask.. Cheers Dyna
Hmmmm.....approx 3.200 mls (Vancouver)... sounds like a challenge to me. Is it Vancouver BC or more like Juneau BC??
That's sounds like the Fraser Valley where they're dealing with huge floods and mudslides. You might want to send them an email and ask how they are (and then the car). Abbotsford, and Chilliwack were hit bad and so were some US Border towns.
Don't you first have to officially import the Canadian Wagon into the USA, before you can pass it through customs and legally ship it out of the country?
Nope, it's a transit.... you need export approval from Canada that you will later on show US customs but that is for me to worry about. Cheers Dyna
