These are a little bit late, but here are some photos from the EyesOn Design Show, held on Father's Day, 2013. The setting is the Edsel and Eleanor Ford home in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. This year's theme was "Revolution over Evolution", recognizing vehicles that represented a significant departure from the existing designs of their day. Of course, there are always special categories, including this year's Chris-Craft category! This year's Poster Car; the 1948 Tucker: The "Tailgate & Beds - Custom Trucks" category: Remember the Dodge Deora Concept car? It was here, too! This became the best selling Hot Wheels car of all time: A portion of the "Hot Rods and Customs" category: Mike Alexander owned the "Alexander Brothers" custom shop with his brother Larry. He appeared with the "Little Deuce Coupe" that was built by his shop and ultimately adorned the cover of The Beach Boys' 4th album in 1963: The "Baby Boomers" category; revolutionary compacts, made in America: From the "Collector's Circle", an eclectic group of vehicles chosen by the individual collectors for exhibition this year: The lady who owns this 1930 Packard 740 Roadster will celebrate her 103rd birthday in July! Ever heard of "Moxie"? It's kind of a 1930's version of Red Bull. John Wissink re-created the Moxie promotional vehicle based on his memories and research; the vehicle is operated from the saddle! More to follow....
Some shots from the "Classic Era Design" category... 1911 Oldsmobile Limited (HUGE vehicle!) 1923 Kissel Gold Bug Speedster: A portion of the "Classic Chris-Crafts" category: Some of the "Extreme Makeovers2 - Revolutions in Design 1953-1971" category: That's my 68 GTO! "The Muscle Cars - A Spotlight on Change" category included my friend's 67 Impala SS 427, 4-speed convertible...with A/C! and these beauties: Stay tuned for more!
"The Cars of Jackson" category showcased vehicles that were built in Jackson, Michigan. I've never seen a Jackson before; there were SIX of them here! I didn't realize the Kaiser Darrin was built in Jackson! There were two stunningly beautiful cars in this special class "Preserving the Vision": 1929 Auburn Boattail Speedster: 1930 Pierce Arrow Sport Phaeton: From the "Upper Class Reunion - Evolution/Revolution of American Luxury 1955-1969"" category Probably the single most photographed car all day... The owners hit a deer en route to Michigan from near Toronto. The car was driven to the show! A 1950 Crosley Hotshot in the "Sports Car revolution" category: And a few Morgans, too! One of the coolest things about EyesOnDesign is the tactile design reviews done by the special guests who are visually impaired. I happened to be near my car when they came by to feel my car: There are a few categories I didn't photograph, but you get the idea. It was a great show and I was honored to have my car invited.
Great pics! The GTO looks stunning! Nice work. Couldn't help but cringe when I saw that Caddy that hit the deer.
Yes, the GTO looks good... great cars you posted, I just don't know where to begin But I will say it must have been devastating for the Caddy owner after hitting the deer. Yet I also will ad, good luck driving away in a new car if that's what happened to real steel!
I'm drooling over those pics of the Chris-Craft boats! I'd love to have one, and pull it with a real woody wagon, maybe a Town and Country. David
I agree with everyone, your GTO looks great! I really like the Tucker, the other one that caught me is the Dodge concept. I am usually not a fan of futuristic, sci-fi looking concepts but I like this one for some strange reason...Only complaint I have is y'all didn't have a "Junk-Rod" category incase I wanted to attend with some of my junk!
Thanks for posting the great pics. That poor Caddy, we travelled to Michigan for the NASCAR race on the same weekend. Saw quite a few large deer as road kill between Port Huron and Belleville,MI. Even saw two live ones grazing in the median of the interstate near Dearborn (no pun intended). Can you imagine hitting one with your newer cars with all of their plastic.
yowzah ! yowzah !! yowzah !!! Looks like it was a big car show. Must've been a big deer, too. Too bad they couldn't have had it tied off onto one of the front fenders.
Funny you should mention that... I was talking to the owner of the Cadillac; she was amazed that the Michigan State Trooper asked if they wanted the deer. Apparently, they don't do that in Ontario.
I remember during the W Admin., times were so hard in Tennessee and Kentucky, those two states legalized picking up road kill for dinner,,, IF, your car was the car that hit it. Apparently, Michigan allready had that law or followed suit. And yes, judging by the damage to this old tank, a much newer car might not have made it all the way to the car show. Although, I was able to drive one of my Tauruses for quite some time after smacking that Celica Supra that cut me off in traffic.
I've had a couple of my Buick's in that show, my 1970 GSX Prototype twice and my 1971 Black GSX once. It is a wonderful event that benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, hence the truly blind judging the entrants. I have never been treated as well as I was at this by invitation only show. Congrats on your accomplishment! Your GTO is a beautiful example of the breed!
